Jerry Nadler: 'We Cannot Rely on an Election' to Get Rid of Trump

Republicans have been saying repeatedly that Democrats are using impeachment because they can’t beat Trump in 2020. When House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler delivered his opening statement at the hearing on Articles of Impeachment, he proved this isn’t just a talking point.

“We cannot rely on an election to solve our problems,” he said, “when the president threatens the very integrity of that election,”

This admission echoes a previous statement by Rep. Al Green, who said, “I’m concerned that if we don’t impeach this president, he will get re-elected.”

This isn’t about withholding military aid to Ukraine. Obama refused to give Ukraine lethal aid, and Democrats didn’t accuse him of not acting in our country’s national security interests. It took Trump being in office for that aid to actually get to Ukraine.  Democrats don’t care about Ukraine, or the constitution, or the so-called abuse of power. They care about winning the next election. They care about regaining power. And if Trump wins in 2020, they won’t stop trying to oust him, as Rep. Jim Jordan noted.
