Wearing a red MAGA hat in public could get you assaulted because, how dare you show your support for President Trump! Well, apparently the iconic red hat is so triggering that a Pulitzer Prize-nominated author is actually urging people not to wear any kind of red hat—not for their safety, but because doing so is “making people scared,” because, OMG, they look like red MAGA hats!
The Chicago-based author Rebecca Makkai, whom I never heard of before, tweeted last week, “Is anyone else made really uncomfortable these days by anyone wearing any kind of red baseball cap? Like, I see one and my heart does weird s**t and then I finally realize it only says Titleist or whatever. Maybe don’t wear red caps anymore, normal people?”
Also, for the love of God: The clever folks wearing "Make America Read Again" or whatever caps — NO. You're making everyone scared. Don't do it.

This is not some young millennial, folks. This is a 41-year-old adult woman, who is triggered by red hats.
So if you’re a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals, Arizona Cardinals, etc., etc., you should not wear your red hat in public because tolerant liberals are scared.
Makkai attempted to explain her position by comparing the red hat to a swastika:
If you’re here to be contrary: an equivalent here would be western Hindus choosing not to use the swastika symbol in public despite it being sacred to their faith because it would offend/frighten people. The red hat has become a symbol of hate bc of how its wearers act.

In response to the backlash she received, she made it clear that she wasn’t talking to Trump supporters, but instead “normal people.” She tweeted, “Please note that I was specifically addressing ‘normal people.’ The ones who don’t want to freak people out at a distance.”
Also I love all the people who are like “YOU CAN’T POLICE ME, LIBTARD!” Please note that I was specifically addressing “normal people.” The ones who don’t want to freak people out at a distance. The ones who enjoy it should absolutely continue letting us know who thy are.

I guess to be considered “normal people” you have to be one who understands how sensitive snowflakes can be to the color of a hat. I’m guessing Makkai also thinks that people who are triggered by a red hat, MAGA or not, are “normal people” too.
I wonder if Makkai thinks these are “normal people” too?
