After many months of speculation, White House correspondent and CNN contributor April Ryan has revealed on Twitter that Eric Holder, Barack Obama’s former attorney general, might run for president in 2020.

Ryan clearly can’t contain her excitement. Did you notice the exclamation point? Holder’s name has been mentioned for quite a long time in a what is an already a crowded (and yet still growing) field of potential Democrat candidates considering facing off against Donald Trump.

And, let’s face it, Eric Holder has a lot to offer. Serving from 2009 to 2015 as Obama’s point man in the Department of Justice, Holder is the first U.S. attorney general to be held in both criminal and civil contempt, for his obstruction of the “Fast and Furious” investigation. Holder was also responsible for the controversial decision to drop the slam-dunk voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party for their actions in Philadelphia during the 2008 election, which prompted the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to launch a formal investigation, which, of course, the DOJ stonewalled the best they could. The Civil Rights Commission concluded there was a racial double standard at Holder’s Department of Justice in their final report.

Holder was also chairman of the Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force (FFETF), which was launched in 2009 by Barack Obama “to hold accountable those who helped bring about the last financial crisis, and to prevent another crisis from happening.” As a result of the task force, the Obama administration sued big banks, negotiated huge settlements meant to compensate the victims, and then incentivized banks to reduce their settlement obligations by donating millions of dollars to various Obama-approved left-wing causes. This left-wing slush fund scheme would continue until 2017, when Donald Trump’s attorney general, Jeff Sessions, officially ended the practice of allowing payments to outside groups as part of settlement agreements.

Further adding to Holder’s credibility amongst the far left was his obstruction of the investigation into the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)  targeting of conservative and tea party groups during the 2012 presidential campaign. Holder really demonstrated his integrity here by appointing an Obama partisan, DOJ lawyer Barbara Bosserman, to run the FBI investigation. That investigation determined just a few short days after Bosserman’s appointment that the FBI was not planning to file any criminal charges related to the scandal.

It is certainly reasonable that Holder’s potential candidacy would excite journalists like April Ryan. Remember in May 2013 when we learned that the Justice Department seized two months of AP reporters’ phone records, in what AP president Gary Pruitt called a ”massive and unprecedented intrusion” into newsgathering activities? Guess who approved the subpoena? Yep. Attorney General Eric Holder.

Yes, Eric Holder’s scandalous tenure at the Department of Justice is truly historic and unmatched. Holder was a radical Obama loyalist who protected the president by never appointing a special counsel for any of the dozens of Obama administration scandals.

I, for one, welcome his potentially joining the Democratic field of presidential candidates in 2020.
