The Only Thing Liberals Understand: ‘It Could Happen to Me, Too!’

“Left-wing zealots have often been prepared to ride roughshod over due process and basic considerations of fairness when they think they can get away with it. For them the ends always seem to justify the means. That is precisely how their predecessors came to create the gulag.”Margaret Thatcher

“So much of left-wing thought is a kind of playing with fire by people who don’t even know that fire is hot.” — George Orwell

I’ve been around politics for almost two decades now and one thing I have learned about liberals in politics is that they do not care about good or bad or right and wrong when it comes to people who don’t share their beliefs.

They universally feel comfortable lying about conservatives. They believe conservatives are evil and they diligently refuse to consider any explanation for beliefs on the Right that don’t support that premise. They put their liberalism above everything, including God.

Now, you may say, “My cousin is not like this,” or, “I know a great liberal I’ve been friends with since I was 12. He doesn’t think like this.” I acknowledge the truth of what you’re saying. Many liberals out in the wild are good and decent people, but that’s because liberalism is like a virus. In the early stages, you may be able to power your way through it. But the deeper you get into it and the more important it becomes to you, the more it infects your personality and turns your soul ugly.

Unless they’re talking up a pet “conservative” like John McCain, David Frum, David Brooks, etc., whose job is to tell liberals everything they think about conservatives is true, they see all conservatives as exactly the same. Evil. It doesn’t matter if you voted for Trump or not. It doesn’t matter how thoroughly you explain your positions. It doesn’t matter if you spent the summer volunteering at a homeless shelter. You are evil/racist/sexist, you hate poor people, and you’re a Nazi.

There is no crime that can be committed by a “good liberal” in the eyes of political liberals besides making liberals look bad in the eyes of the general public. Because of this, every once in a while an Anthony Weiner, Kathy Griffin, or Harvey Weinstein will be thrown over the side where they’ll be left for good unless they become somehow useful to liberals again, in which case they will immediately be embraced. If you’re important enough, like Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy, you won’t be thrown over the side, no matter what. If George Soros had done exactly the same things as Harvey Weinstein, all we’d hear today would be that all the women who accuse him are lying whores, while feminist groups invite Soros to face-saving fundraising dinners.

Expecting hardcore political liberals to be different than this is like expecting a wolverine to be cuddly and fun to hug. You may say, “But, I saw a wolverine doing that on YouTube once! It was adorable!” Right. Just as there are wolverines that are cuddly, I will freely admit that there are exceptions to the rules and you can always tell exactly who they are because legions of hopeful conservatives amplify whatever they happen to say that makes sense. “OMG, Jake Tapper ACTUALLY CRITICIZED an obvious ethics lapse by a Democrat! Isn’t he amazing?” “Hey, did you see that ICE-T says we should be able to carry guns? AWESOME!” “Roseanne says she likes Donald Trump! I did not know such a creature existed in Hollywood. Let’s all watch her show!”

All that being said, if you expect the exceptions to be the rule, you will be perpetually disappointed. If you think liberals are thinking about the good of the nation as a whole, human decency, or being fair, you are mistaken. To the extent that they care about any of these things, it’s because it personally impacts them or people they view as their allies. Anyone who doesn’t fall into that category can hang for all they care and they just might cheer if the person hanging is wearing a MAGA hat.

Liberals, being liberals, will rip every cherished pillar of society down without thinking twice about it because they collectively decided five minutes ago that some sob story is now the most important thing in the world and everyone who disagrees is a Nazi. People with this sort of mentality are impervious to reason.

Liberals only understand two things coming from non-liberals. The first is losing elections. Notice that’s plural. Losing one election does little to them. Lose two and the self-doubt starts to creep in. If you want to really beat them back to the middle, it would take beating them for three straight elections and given the habitual incompetence of the Republican Party, that’s hard to pull off. Even if you do, there’s a lot of time between elections, which means that’s not always the most practical way of getting through to liberals.

However, there is one other thing liberals understand and that is: “This could happen to me, too.” Usually, they don’t worry about this much because they either live in liberal bubbles where they assume there are no conservatives or because despite all their rhetoric to the contrary, on some gut level they know conservatives are better people and won’t sink to the same level.

For the liberals who overwhelmingly supported Sarah Huckabee Sanders being kicked out of the Red Hen and Maxine Waters calling for liberals to harass members of the Trump administration, what do you think is more likely to have an impact on them? Calling for civility? Haven’t you heard? “Civility is a tool of white supremacy.” Saying, “Gee, that’s not nice. We should all get along!”? Lots of people tried that and didn’t get too far. Appealing to reason? That never works with liberals. However, I am guessing that the thousands and thousands of negative reviews and protesters at the Red Hen got the attention of any other restaurant owners thinking of doing the same thing. I’d also guess that although Maxine Waters is too dumb to take back what she said (let’s face it, it’s practically a miracle that someone as stupid as she is can hold a job in the first place), Laura Loomer’s aggressive interview with her made smarter Democratic congressmen question whether they want to follow in her footsteps. The more Maxine Waters has to taste her own medicine, the more likely it is to have an impact.

Because conservatives actually put thought into what’s good for society and what’s not, I’m sure the vast majority of us don’t want to get into a situation where people are harassing each other over politics at gas stations and people’s homes. However, liberals don’t put any thought into what’s good for anyone other than themselves and they’re half the equation. If they keep this up, then conservatives need to start playing the same game. That’s not good. It makes it much more likely that people will get hurt because screaming at people in front of their homes and at gas stations is much more likely to lead to that, but there is a worse alternative.

That is, allowing liberals to do anything while conservatives do nothing. If you think the American people will give us credit for being more virtuous and ignoring them, you are seeing what you want to see, not what the American public does. Moreover, when liberals feel like they’re pushing and not getting any pushback, what they inevitably do is push farther. We already have soy boys in black bandannas throwing bricks through windows and refusing to allow conservatives to speak at all on college campuses. The next step up will be bombings that will be winked at by most liberals. It’s happened before and you tell me: is unrepentant terrorist bomber Bill Ayers a pariah on the Left or a much-admired professor?

I certainly don’t think anyone on the Right should break the law, be racist or be evil. But, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If a liberal reporter doxes someone on the Right, he deserves to be doxed. If a liberal politician calls for conservatives to be harassed in public, harass him in public. If a restaurant does what the Red Hen did, give it the Red Hen treatment. If it gets to the point where yowling mobs of liberal idiots bray at people in the Trump administration every time they go out, we may have to start applauding our own yowling mobs. That’s not good for anyone and it would be much better if we could just be civil, but as liberal icon Saul Alinksy liked to say, you have to “make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.”
