Residents of Sunnyvale, Calf., out for an evening stroll on Tuesday, had their lives shattered after a driver decided to veer his speeding car into them. In the aftermath, eight people were sent to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. Among the injured is a 13-year-old boy.
The local NBC affiliate spoke to the police department:
Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. Jim Choi said the driver, an adult male, is in police custody. Officials are investigating the incident as an intentional act due to initial statements made at the scene.
“We have preliminary evidence from witnesses that he was accelerating, doesn’t look like he tried to brake at all,” Choi said.

The police have not released a motive at this time. However, if the driver acted intentionally as believed by the Sunnyvale authorities, one thing this tragic act of terrorism highlights is that evil people will find any means necessary to unleash their violence into this world. No amount of government regulations and oversight will be successful in stopping criminals and terrorists from harming innocent people. None of California’s strict gun regulations were able to prevent eight citizens from becoming victimized by violence yesterday evening.
Constant vigilance by informed and prepared citizens as well as government action against the root causes of violence and terrorism are the best ways to ensure that attacks like the one in Sunnyvale don’t happen again.
