Tulsi Sues Hillary for Defamation

If you like the Democrats, this is the most hurtful and bewildering time in the 2020 presidential campaign. This is the part where the few remaining contenders all quit pretending to be civil. Playtime is over. Now they’re really sinking the knives into each other’s ribs. Erstwhile friends and allies lash out at one another. Long-buried grievances are unearthed. Spiteful recriminations are volleyed back and forth. Cries of betrayal echo throughout the land. If you have an emotional and/or financial investment in the success of the Democratic Party, it’s upsetting and nerve-wracking. For the rest of us, it’s really quite fun.

Just as the Warren/Sanders feud was starting to ease off, Hillary Clinton angered Bernie Bros this week by declaring that “nobody likes him” and “he got nothing done” in the Senate. She also refused to promise that she’ll support Bernie if he gets the Democratic nomination. As if all that isn’t amusing enough, now Tulsi Gabbard is joining the party. Unlike Bernie, she’s more than willing to fight back.

Erik Ortiz, NBC News:

Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard filed a defamation lawsuit Wednesday against Hillary Clinton seeking $50 million in damages, claiming the former Democratic presidential nominee “carelessly and recklessly impugned” her reputation when she suggested in October that one of the 2020 Democratic candidates is “the favorite of the Russians.”

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, says it aims to hold Clinton and other “political elites” accountable for “distorting the truth in the middle of a critical Presidential election…”

When asked if Clinton was referring to Gabbard, Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said, “If the nesting doll fits…”

So clever, Nick! Hope it was worth it.

Gabbard also said this yesterday:

Some Republicans seem to be Tulsi fans, which I’ve never understood. But I applaud her for standing up for herself. In 2016, the Dems had to pretend they could stand Hillary because they had no choice. Now they’re off the muzzle. Now they can say the same things we’ve been saying for decades.

Even if you don’t like Trump, it’s okay to enjoy watching Hillary make a fool of herself. Her illusion of gravitas and competence has been shattered forever, and she can no longer force anyone to pretend otherwise. She’s just a sad old woman who craved power, and her failure to grab it has broken her. You can talk back to her now. She has no authority over you. It’s okay to admit you’re glad.

Kudos to Rep. Gabbard. Now she should probably make a public statement that she has no plans to commit suicide. Is it too early to get #TulsiDidntKillHerself going?
