The mayor of Somerville, Mass., has trumpeted on Twitter that he is boycotting a local brewery because its founder had the unmitigated gall to thank the president of the United States for a tax cut.
“I will never drink Sam Adams beer again!” Mayor Joseph Curtatone said on Sunday, retweeting a fellow resister who linked to a Boston Business Journal article.

According to the article, Boston Beer’s Jim Koch was one of 13 corporate executives who dined with President Donald Trump last Tuesday night at his New Jersey golf resort. He thanked the president during the dinner, saying the tax cut would help his company compete against foreign brewers.
Koch said that the GOP’s tax-reform measure “was a very big deal” for his company and noted that “85 percent of the beer made in the United States is owned by foreign companies.”
“I mean, Americans — I’m the largest American-owned brewery at 2 percent market share. We were paying 38 percent taxes … and competing against people who were paying 20. And now we have a level playing field, and we’re going to kick their ass,” Koch said.
Curtatone’s incendiary tweets seemed designed to stir up an online mob against the business. Jim Koch dined with President Trump? How dare he? Doesn’t he know about Trump’s “white nationalist agenda”?!

Curtatone was still stewing Sunday evening apparently because he took another gratuitous swipe at Koch:

Somerville is a longtime sanctuary city, and judging by his Twitter feed, Curtatone is a passionate advocate for illegal aliens.
On Tuesday, the mayor acknowledged that his Sunday tweets had stirred up some support for Samuel Adams beer, but added that he didn’t believe it, suggesting that he’d rather see the local business fail.
