It's a Start: Peter Fonda Apologizes to President and Family for Vulgar Tweet

Actor Peter Fonda has apologized for sending out a vulgar tweet targeting President Trump’s wife and son.

On Wednesday, the 78-year-old wrote on Twitter that “we should rip Barron Trump from his mother’s arms and put him in a cage with pedophiles,” in reference to families being separated at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In the all-caps tweet, Fonda went on to say that he’d like to see First Lady Melania Trump “stand up against the giant a****** she is married to.”

The first lady’s office notified the Secret Service and called the tweet “sick and irresponsible.”

“I tweeted something highly inappropriate and vulgar about the president and his family in response to the devastating images I was seeing on television,” Fonda said in a statement Thursday. “Like many Americans, I am very impassioned and distraught over the situation with children separated from their families at the border, but I went way too far.”

The statement continued, “It was wrong and I should not have done it. I immediately regretted it and sincerely apologize to the family for what I said and any hurt my words have caused.”

That’s a start, but Fonda, the son of the late legendary actor Henry Fonda and younger brother of Jane Fonda, has more apologizing to do.

During his Twitter rampage yesterday, he also called for the caging and public rape of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen and for the abduction of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ children. He called both of the accomplished conservative women “lying gashes.”

“Kristjen Nielsen is a lying gash that should be put in a cage and poked at by passersby,” he tweeted. “The gash should be pilloried in Lafayette Square naked and whipped by passersby while being filmed for posterity.”

He then directed his venom at Sanders: “SS (Sarah Sanders) is a lying gash, too. And ‘gash’ is much worse than cunt. Maybe we should take her children away and deport her to Arkansas, and giving [sic] her children to Stephen Goebbels Miller for safe keeping.”

Many conservatives, like Dana Loesch, are wondering if Fonda, whose movie “Boundaries” is about to be released in theaters, will get the Roseanne treatment.

Sony Pictures said in a statement Wednesday that they would not be pulling the movie release despite Fonda’s outrageous comments.

“Peter Fonda’s comments are abhorrent, reckless and dangerous, and we condemn them completely,” Sony said. “It is important to note that Mr. Fonda plays a very minor role in the film. To pull or alter this film at this point would unfairly penalize the filmmaker Shana Feste’s accomplishment, the many actors, crew members and other creative talent that worked hard on the project.”

While it does not seem appropriate at this junction for Sony to pull an entire movie for one minor player’s actions, it remains to be seen whether Fonda will be dropped from any potential projects in the future. Loesch’s narrator probably has it right: “He won’t.”
