Bill Clinton: ‘I Like All Those Young People in Black Lives Matter’

The Black Lives Matter movement has resonated with former President Bill Clinton, who said the group’s message is important.

“I like all those young people in Black Lives Matter. I think what they are saying is important when you see an unarmed young person get 17 bullets in one of our cities and another mentally ill man who never should have had the gun in his hand running away from the police and have 32 bullets fired at him,” Clinton said during a New Hampshire campaign event for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“And then you see the heroic performance of the police officers in the aftermath of the tragedy in San Bernardino. You know we have to do something to pull it back together,” he added.

Clinton also said he feels the same way about undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children, commonly known as DREAMers, as well as South Carolina for taking down the Confederate flag.

“Why am I saying this? Because to have broad-based prosperity you have to have inclusive economics and more equal opportunities for people. To take advantage of it and to make it work you have to have inclusive societies where we relish our differences, but where when our chips are down our common humanity matters more,” he said.

Clinton said the job of the next president is to provide the country with inclusive economics, inclusive societies and inclusive politics.

He argued that his wife has a “good economic plan” that would cut greenhouse gas emissions because “we don’t want to blow up the planet for our kids and grandkids.”

Clinton said Iowa, Minnesota and Texas currently get 25-30 percent of their local electricity from wind.

“This is not a pie-in-the-sky deal,” he said.

Clinton also defended Obamacare.

“I think it would be a real mistake to give in to the attempts to weaken, water-down or repeal this healthcare law. We ought to do what Hillary says and continue to improve it,” he said.

The former Arkansas governor said no one is better prepared than Hillary to navigate the “very uncertain and often perilous world” without “blowing our values up.”

“In my adult lifetime there has never been anyone better prepared for the job that awaits the next president than Hillary,” he said.

Clinton did not address GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s comments about his affair with Monica Lewinsky and impeachment.

Trump recently said Hillary Clinton was “schlonged” in the 2008 Democratic primary when she lost the nomination contest to Barack Obama. She refused to respond to Trump’s comments directly, but said “it’s not the first time he’s demonstrated a penchant for sexism.”

Trump later tweeted, “Hillary Clinton has announced that she is letting her husband out to campaign but HE’S DEMONSTRATED A PENCHANT FOR SEXISM, so inappropriate!”
