A Massachusetts School District Bans Halloween Celebrations

These CBS Boston news anchors were incredulous as they reported that a Needham, Massachusetts, elementary school is banning Halloween celebrations. The school district’s reasoning is that some kids would be “uncomfortable.” Is this a religious thing, or a concern about lower-income families? Either way, it seems like the vast majority of kids will suffer because of the supposed needs of a few students.

The CBS folks didn’t even mention this, but the saddest part about this is that school Halloween programs are often the safest ways for children to celebrate. They don’t have to worry about drivers while they’re trick-or-treating, or worry about where their candy treats are coming from. They just get to have fun in their classroom.

Yet another childhood experience the next generation may miss out on!
