The culture of death that has infected the United States does not limit itself to only our country. In fact, most of it seems to come from socialist countries around the world. Take Canada for example. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've debated with a liberal about the dangers of government-run healthcare only to hear them bring up Canada, talking about its healthcare system with the eyes of someone smitten by Cupid's arrow.
Leftists don't seem to understand that ideological beliefs and political philosophies often look fantastic in theory, but when they try to put them into practice — the part they never think about — the whole thing becomes a horror show. The tale of a senior who went to Vancouver General Hospital for diagnosis and treatment, only to have a doctor offer euthanasia instead, is a prime example.
Here's the disturbing part. The doctor offered the woman death before even asking what was wrong with her to begin with. If you don't find that extremely concerning, you might want to pay a visit to a mental health professional. You're sick in the head.
“I am 84 years old, and a year ago, an amazing thing happened,” Miriam said in an interview with Amanda Achtman, the founder of the Dying to Meet You Project. “When I got out of bed one morning, I was suddenly in excruciating pain, so much so that my daughter came running in from another room.”
“She called an ambulance,” Miriam recounted. “Off I went to Vancouver General Hospital, and a young lady doctor approached me. The very first words out of her mouth [were]: ‘We would like to offer you MAID.’ I was taken aback—that was the last thing on my mind! I just wanted to find out why I was in pain! I did not want to die!”
What in the world would prompt a doctor to immediately offer assisted suicide instead of treating the woman's pain and prolonging her life? Don't medical doctors take an oath to preserve life? Well, when you put socialism in place, you soon start to suffer from a scarcity of resources.
Doctors become scarce and overburdened with an extreme number of patients when the government takes over the healthcare system and makes it "free" for all. And we're not just talking about general practitioners. Specialists and surgeons, who no longer earn bucket-loads of money for their skills, also become scarce, causing long wait times even for routine procedures.
This all leads to rationing. Bureaucrats create panels to decide who should actually receive treatment. A younger person who is still in relatively good health and can produce for society becomes highly valued, while people like this poor elderly woman get treated as essentially worthless since they cannot produce. So socialists try to dispose of them. It's really sickening.
Miriam didn't ask for euthanasia. She hadn't even inquired about it. Heck, she still didn't have a diagnosis explaining the cause of her pain. And yet, the doctor offered her a lethal injection that would terminate her life immediately, all because she's an elderly woman. And here we all thought liberals were against discrimination.
“I was a month in hospital, came home, recuperated nicely enough that I could take some trips,” Miriam told Achtman. “Off I went last year to Cuba – before the problems today in Cuba – and then, this just recently, I have been to Mexico and Guatemala. My recovery has been amazing, and there was no need for MAID to even be suggested.”
In other words, despite being 84 years old, Miriam typically enjoys pretty decent health. Well enough to travel the world even. And yet this doctor essentially told her through the offer of MAID that she was just sucking up air. The culture of death on full display.
Achtman posted the video of Miriam's story on X and it immediately went viral, pulling over a quarter of a million views and over 3,000 reposts.
“Physician assisted killing creates a structure of sin which amplifies so many other evil cultural biases which push towards discarding the vulnerable,” ethicist Charlie Camosy said in response to the chilling video. “Ageism and ableism are foremost among them.”
This is what radical leftists in America want to transform our healthcare system into. It's a nightmare wrapped in a saccharine blanket of fake compassion. Life is a precious gift from God and is worthy of preserving until natural death. We must continue to fight against this sick practice through education and, of course, the spread of the gospel.
