Sitting in for Rush today, Mark Steyn played this clip of Obama speechwriters Jon Lovett, Jon Favreau and David Litt having a chortle at their fellow Americans’ expense with Charlie Rose, the Bill Moyers of his day. Suckers!

As Ben Rhodes famously said recently:
“All these newspapers used to have foreign bureaus,” he said. “Now they don’t. They call us to explain to them what’s happening in Moscow and Cairo. Most of the outlets are reporting on world events from Washington. The average reporter we talk to is 27 years old, and their only reporting experience consists of being around political campaigns. That’s a sea change. They literally know nothing.”
Think about that as you digest what comes out of both ends of the Beltway frat-boys club, both the wholesalers and the purveyors. When the statements of 30-somethings are being parsed in the media by their coevals, the country has a serious problem. They don’t know what they don’t know, and they don’t care as long as they can make themselves the story.
But that’s what’s happens when the big media companies contract, lay off senior staff and increasingly turn to wet-behind-the-ears bloggers to guide the national discourse.
You get what you pay for.
