Speaking with NBC News, Attorney General Bill Barr completely wiped the floor with Democrats, the FBI, and the media for constantly accusing the Trump campaign of “colluding with Russia” to win the 2016 election. It was, Barr said, “a completely bogus narrative.” And the press helped fan and hype it.
“Our nation was turned on its head for three years,” Barr said, “based on a completely bogus narrative, that was largely fanned and hyped by an irresponsible press.” The media will undoubtedly hate him for saying it, but he is completely right. Just take a look at the list of extremely dishonest journalists who lied about the role the Steele dossier played in the FBI’s FISA requests. It’s quite a sight to behold. They’re from the Washington Post, CNN, the New York Times, NBC, Reuters… the list goes on and on. If we’d make another list of journalists who constantly hyped the Russia collusion hoax, it would literally be endless.
Hooray for Bill Barr for speaking truth to power, then.
But wait, he wasn’t done just yet. He also spoke his mind about the FBI’s role in the hoax and, well, let’s just say he wasn’t happy. He saw, he said, “gross abuses of FISA, and inexplicable behavior that isn’t tolerable in the FBI. And the attorney general’s primary responsibility is to protect against the abuse of the law enforcement and intelligence apparatus, and make sure that it doesn’t play an improper role in our political life. That is my responsibility, and I’m going to carry it out.”
At the start of the interview, Barr explained that the FISA was predicated on false, baseless information, which obviously constitutes a gross abuse of the FISA process. He added that the media’s reports on the matter in recent days was largely incorrect. He feels that they are downplaying these abuses of FISA. Barr added that he completely disagreed with IG Horowitz on the question of whether there was enough reason to open a full-blown counterintelligence operation against the Trump campaign. As he sees is, there wasn’t, especially not considering the techniques they used to spy on the campaign.
Amazingly, the NBC “reporter” (haha!) indicated that it’s quite OK to open an investigation into a presidential campaign “on the thinnest of grounds.” Barr destroyed him in only a few seconds time. “From a civil liberties standpoint, the greatest danger to our free system is that the incumbent government uses the apparatus of the state, principally the law enforcement agencies and the intelligence agencies, both to spy on political opponents but also to use them in a way that could affect the outcome of the election. As far as I’m aware, this is the first time in history that this has been done to a presidential campaign — the use of these counterintelligence techniques against a presidential campaign.”
“We have to remember,” Barr went on, “in today’s world, presidential campaigns are frequently in contact with foreign persons. And indeed, in most campaigns, there are signs of illegal foreign money coming in. [But] we don’t automatically assume that the campaigns are nefarious, and traitors, and acting in league with foreign powers. There has to be some basis before we use these very potent powers in our core First Amendment activity.”
“And here, I felt this was very flimsy,” Barr continued.
Oh, and to those members of the mainstream media who said that the Trump campaign wasn’t spied upon:
“It was clearly spied upon. I mean, that’s what electronic surveillance is. I think wiring people up to go in to talk to people and make recordings of their conversations is spying.” Yes, you’d think so. Only our dear friends of the mainstream media would beg to differ — and only, of course, when we’re talking about a Republican presidential campaign. If Trump let the FBI do this to the eventual Democratic nominee, there would be hell to pay.
In any case, Trump can take pride in his decision to make Bill Barr is attorney general. He’s truly doing a magnificent job. Now we’ll have to wait for the Durham investigation, which may actually result in some indictments.
