Did Andrew McCabe Accuse James Comey of Lying Under Oath?

Friday night, former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe accused the Trump administration of singling him out and waging an “unrelenting” war on him. Nonsense, of course, since career officials recommended he should be fired shortly before his retirement kicked off. The Trump administration was undoubtedly all too happy to follow that advice, but that’s an entirely different matter altogether. The point is that he deserved to be fired.

Be that as it may, in his statement, McCabe did say something new and surprising: he implied that former FBI director James Comey lied under oath about McCabe sharing information to the media.

“I chose to share with a reporter through my public affairs officer and legal counselor,” McCabe stated. “As deputy director, I was one of only a few people who had the authority to do that. It was not a secret, it took place over several days, and others, including the director, were aware of the interaction with the reporter.”

Most people didn’t notice these few sentences, but The Hill did… and points out that this means that Comey may have lied under oath about his knowledge of McCabe’s media leaks:

If the “interaction” means leaking the information, then McCabe’s statement would seem to directly contradict statements Comey made in a May 2017 congressional hearing. Asked if he had “ever been an anonymous source in news reports about matters relating to the Trump investigation or the Clinton investigation” or whether he had “ever authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports about the Trump investigation or the Clinton investigation,” Comey replied “never” and “no.”

Of course, Comey is already in trouble because he shared information with a befriended Columbia University Law School professor, who then leaked it to the media after the Trump administration let him go.

The timing for Comey could not be worse. He already has started selling tickets, for roughly $100 each, to attend the tour for his forthcoming book, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership.” If he gave McCabe the green light for his “interaction,” the title could prove embarrassingly ironic.

If this was determined to be a leak with his approval, Comey likely would be labeled not just a leaker but a liar. Worse, his second-in-command just lost his pension after more than 20 years with the bureau, while Comey is about to cash in on a book and publicity tour potentially worth millions.

Comey’s book is titled,  A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership? The irony. Comey’s “higher loyalty” is to Hillary Clinton? Truth? We haven’t heard Comey tell the truth even once. He’s a serial liar. And the only ‘leadership’ he has shown is leading an anti-Trump cabal in the FBI and using the agency’s powers to undermine then-candidate, now-president Trump.

With a little bit of luck, we’ll now see McCabe turn on Comey, and the latter returning the favor. That will surely drag up some FBI dirt and finally, truly and completely expose the Democratic cabal within the FBI. Finally.
