Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters predicted on Sunday that President Trump will be brought down by porn star Stormy Daniels… if Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation doesn’t bring him down first, that is.
“This business about Stormy is not going to go away,” the representative from California said. “If for some reason Mueller does not get him, Stormy will. So we know that this is going to go on.”
Daniels (real name Stephanie Clifford) alleges that she had an affair with Trump more than a decade ago. She’s not free to talk about it, however, because she signed a nondisclosure agreement in 2016. In exchange for her silence, Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen paid her $130,000. Although the affair hasn’t been confirmed by other sources, the payment has indeed taken place.
The porn actress, however, feels that she doesn’t have to abide by the agreement because Cohen forgot to get Trump to sign it. Cohen’s signature is on it and Daniels’ is, but Trump’s isn’t. Daniels has recently filed a lawsuit alleging the document is invalid. If the judge agrees, Daniels will be free to talk about the alleged affair without fear of any financial reprisals from Trump and his lawyer.
Be that as it may, it isn’t clear at all that this (alleged) affair will take Trump down; not even if Daniels gets the green light from the judge to share her side of the story. Trump has never made a secret of his love for women. Having an affair (shortly after his wife gave birth to their son) is exactly the sort of thing one would expect Trump to do. It’s hard to imagine that Trump’s supporters will turn their backs on him because of this controversy. They knew he was a morally challenged man when they voted for him. They just didn’t care.
Additionally, the evangelicals supporting Trump can always argue that the president became “a new man” when he “accepted Jesus” not too long ago. Or so we were told by James Dobson, who famously called the president a “baby Christian” in 2016.
All in all, Rep. Waters can daydream as much as she wants, but chances of Stormy Daniels taking down President Trump are rather slim. That is not to say that he will enjoy seeing her on TV sharing the details of their alleged affair, but that is an entirely different affair altogether.
