The Republican nominee for Senate in Alabama is in real trouble now.

With lawyer Gloria Allred standing by her side, a highly emotional Beverly Young Nelson said on Monday that Roy Moore assaulted her when she was only 16 years old.

Nelson got to know Moore — who was then a district attorney — when she was working as a minor in a restaurant in Alabama, she said. He always flirted a bit with her and, when she was 16 years old, wrote in her yearbook. She trusted him.

So one day when her boyfriend didn’t show up and Moore offered to bring her home, she gladly took him up on the offer. The result was, Young Nelson explained, an absolute nightmare. According to her, he parked the car behind the restaurant where “there were no lights.” Next thing she knew, he allegedly started groping her.

“I was alarmed and I immediately asked him what he was doing. Instead of answering my question, Mr. Moore reached over and began groping me,” she said, adding that Moore reached over and locked the car door while she yelled at him to stop and continued to try to fight him off.

Moore then grabbed her neck and pushed her head toward his “crotch,” Nelson said.

She went on to say that she was “terrified. He was also trying to pull my shirt off. I thought that he was trying to rape me…. I had tears running down my face.”

Moore gave up eventually, Nelson said. She also alleges that Moore told her that since “you’re just a child and I’m the district attorney of Etowah County… no one will ever believe you” if she went out and told anyone about it. The result:

I thought he would do something to me or my family so I decided to keep what happened to myself.

Nelson and her husband are Republicans and voted for Donald Trump. But, she said, she felt the need to speak out when other women accused Moore of inappropriate behavior towards them when they were minors.

Moore’s Senate campaign chairman Bill Armistead has responded to the allegations by saying that Moore is “an innocent man” while blasting her lawyer:

Gloria Allred is a sensationalist leading a witch hunt, and she is only around to create a spectacle. We’ve said this before and we’ll say it again: Judge Moore is an innocent man and has never had any sexual misconduct with anyone.

With this accusation, Moore is in serious trouble. Recent polls showed that Alabama voters gave him the benefit of the doubt until now, but that could very well change.
