Gary Johnson Shocks MSNBC With a Blank Stare: 'What Is Aleppo?'

FILE - In this Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 file photo, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson speaks at a news conference during which he announced he is leaving the Republican Party in favor of seeking a presidential nomination as a Libertarian, at the State Capitol in Santa Fe, N.M. Something's going on in America this election year: a renaissance of an ideal as old as the nation itself - that live-and-let-live, get-out-of-my-business, individualism vs. paternalism dogma that is the hallmark of libertarianism. But what looms are far larger questions about whether an America fed up with government bans and government bailouts - with government, period - is seeing a return to its libertarian roots. According to many opponents of both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump (and I’m one of them), Gary Johnson is the only adult in the race. The former governor of New Mexico has more experience than anyone else, and always seems to know what he’s talking about. Or so they say.

Well, apparently, that’s not entirely the case when foreign policy is concerned:

Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson was caught by surprise on Thursday morning during a visit with MSNBC on what was — in no way — intended to be a “gotcha” question.

Morning Joe‘s Mike Barnicle asked the former New Mexico Governor, “What would you do if you were elected about Aleppo?” referencing the Syrian city that has been the hotbed of airstrikes and the setting for the refugee crisis.

“And what is Aleppo?” he asked with a blank stare to the complete silence of the Morning Joe panelists.

Morning Joe‘s Mike Barnicle — a radical leftist who isn’t exactly the smartest person alive himself — couldn’t believe Johnson truly didn’t know what Aleppo is. “You’re kidding me,” he said. To which Johnson responded with glee: “No!”

I’m serious. He was happily admitting he knows nothing about the Middle East.

Barnicle then explained that he was talking about the Syrian city which has been in the news for months and even years. Johnson:

OK, got it, got it! I do think that it’s a mess. I think the only way we deal with Syria is to join hands with Russia to diplomatically bring that to an end.

If this know-nothing is the only “serious” candidate in the race, the United States and the rest of the world are in more trouble than we thought.

It’s official: Americans have to choose between a Democrat buffoon, a Democrat crook, and a Democrat know-nothing.

YOLO!
