Just how bad is Donald Trump hurting the Republican Party, you ask? Well, how about this:
How much did Trump hurt the GOP?
Before the primaries GOP led: 46-39.
After: A 36-44 loss.https://t.co/m39HQBaekm pic.twitter.com/Br1Ch7x3fk— Justin Wolfers (@JustinWolfers) August 31, 2016
Before the GOP primaries started, 46% of voters said they were inclined to support the Republican presidential candidate, regardless of who it might actually be. Only 39% said they would support the Democratic nominee.
After the primaries, the GOP now trails 36% to 44%. That’s ten percentage points less for the Republican Party, and a 5 percentage point increase for the Democrats.
This is the damage Donald Trump’s nomination is inflicting upon the Republican Party.
As I concluded yesterday, this race is on course to becoming a defeat of epic proportions. And it’s because of Donald Trump and his enablers at Fox News, some ridiculous nationalist-populist websites, and the RNC, who decided to go all in for a man that would take them all down with him.
