The hotly contested kid’s movie Show Dogs, which was under fire for depicting a dog being forced to allow a judge to fondle his genitals in the same creepy way child molesters abuse kids, has folded. In a statement, the moviemakers said they are pulling the film and recutting it to eliminate the upsetting scenes:
Responding to concerns raised by moviegoers and some specific organizations, Global Road Entertainment has decided to remove two scenes from the film ‘Show Dogs’ that some have deemed not appropriate for children. The company takes these matters very seriously and remains committed to providing quality entertainment for the intended audiences based on the film’s rating. We apologize to anybody who feels the original version of ‘Show Dogs’ sent an inappropriate message. The revised version of the film will be available for viewing nationwide starting this weekend.
It’s too bad Global Road Entertainment hired such bad writers in the first place. One of the credited writers, Max Botkin, told CNN that he objected to the scenes and denied involvement in them. He blamed it on 12 unnamed writers. “I absolutely condemn any suggestion or act of non-consensual touching in any form, as well as disassociation as a coping mechanism for abuse of any kind,” he said in a statement. “I understand and empathize with the parents’ and groups’ concerns regarding the message the movie may impart.”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie pulled and recut based on parental concerns, and Global Road Entertainment deserves the credit for doing the right thing, even if they had to be dragged into it.
