Kamala Harris took the stage at a masquerade ball in New Orleans this past weekend, and by the end of her speech, she'd said the quiet part out loud. But it wasn’t about policy; it was about temperament. We all know that Democrats are nuts, and the inmates are truly running the asylum. Everything they do is a reflection of their Trump Derangement Syndrome and the constant and unwavering resistance. Ever since Trump entered politics, that’s how they’ve been. But Kamala doesn’t want you to see it that way.
At the "Masquerade Sneaker Ball" in New Orleans on Friday, Kamala, for some reason, was the keynote attraction. She railed against what she called a "broken status quo," complained about "millions in dark money" flowing into politics (apparently only when it funds the other team), and lectured her party on the importance of knowing how to fight.
Then came the part that really perked me up. Kamala said Democrats need to get "comfortable" adopting a certain "ruthlessness" going forward. She described the posture she wants for her party as one "that fights back hard when they threaten the power of the people." I know, I rolled my eyes, too. Nothing Democrats have ever done has been for the people, but for their own power. Still, this is exactly the kind of language you'd expect from someone hoping her base fills in the blanks with whatever level of aggression makes them feel best.

Let's stop pretending Democrats don't already fight hard.
This is the same party that treated the filibuster as sacred when it blocked George W. Bush's judicial nominees, insisting it protected the minority party's voice, then nuked it under Harry Reid the moment Republicans used the same tool against Barack Obama. Consistency was never the point. Winning was.

And then there's Donald Trump. Democrats impeached him twice on the flimsiest of pretexts, and they're already promising more investigations and another likely impeachment attempt. The Biden administration even tried to put him in prison to keep him out of the White House altogether. And for good measure, they attempted a federal takeover of elections to keep their party in power permanently. How much more ruthless does a political party need to get before Kamala notices they've already crossed every line she's pretending to draw?
Then there's the dangerous rhetoric. Democrats have called Trump a Nazi, a dictator, and an existential threat to democracy so often the label has practically lost meaning, except to the people who took it seriously enough to try to kill him. Multiple times. A radicalized lunatic murdered Charlie Kirk after being brainwashed by exactly this kind of language. Democrats don't have a deficit of ruthlessness. They have a ruthlessness surplus, and Kamala just asked for more.
So why is she saying this now? Why do Democrats do anything? Power.
Early 2028 polling has often shown her leading the field of Democrat contenders. But as I’ve said before, that lead is a mirage built on name recognition, not enthusiasm, and Kamala knows it better than anyone after 2024. What she's really doing is auditioning for a base that thinks the party hasn't been vicious enough. She's not describing a new strategy. She's flattering the people who already think Democrats are too polite, hoping their anger becomes her 2028 launchpad. The far-left base. The socialists. The activists that the establishment is afraid of.
