Democrats have turned fraud into an art form, and the past few weeks have made that brutally clear. From Minnesota to California to federal programs, billions upon billions of taxpayer dollars have vanished into the pockets of fraudsters… and all by design. Democrats looked the other way or actively made it easier. And President Trump is the one who must stop it.
As we’ve reported extensively here at PJ Media, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is now facing intense scrutiny for more than $9 billion in fraud that flourished on his watch. The fraud was largely tied to the Somali community — a reliably Democratic voting bloc. Walz is acting guilty as sin, accusing anyone who calls attention to it of being a white supremacist, while insisting that he and he alone can fix it, like a fox insisting he should guard the henhouse.
Accountability is coming, though. The Trump administration just froze all child care payments to Minnesota this week as the FBI beefs up its investigation. Walz's office claims he's been addressing fraud "for years," but we all know what really happened: His administration feared alienating the Somali community and allowed the schemes to proliferate unchecked.
And where was the Biden administration when much of this fraud was going down? I’ll tell you: It was creating a fraud paradise of its own by rushing pandemic relief funds out with almost no oversight. The Small Business Administration inspector general now estimates that at least $200 billion in potentially fraudulent payments went to scammers through the Paycheck Protection Program and COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan programs. That's 17% of all funds disbursed through those initiatives. The inspector general bluntly stated that safeguards were "weakened or removed" in the rush to distribute $1.2 trillion, making it absurdly easy for fraudsters to loot the system.
ICYMI: The Massive Fraud Scandal No One Is Talking About
It gets worse. A new Housing and Urban Development (HUD) financial report found that roughly $5 billion in rental assistance went to "ineligible" or "questionable" recipients during the final year of the Biden administration. More than 200,000 tenants received $4.3 billion in questionable payments — over a quarter of the $16 billion routed through non-federal housing providers. Among those getting taxpayer funds were approximately 30,000 deceased tenants and thousands with "non-conforming Social Security numbers." HUD officials admit that Biden's team told the agency to "push funding out the door with minimal oversight." The Biden administration "placed substantial trust and responsibility" in these providers but failed to give HUD the tools needed to verify eligibility.
That’s what inviting fraud is.
But the real king of fraud might just be California Gov. Gavin Newsom. A 92-page report from the nonpartisan California State Auditor placed eight state agencies on a high-risk list, highlighting systemic failures that enabled massive fraud, waste, and abuse. The state's food stamp program alone could rack up another $2.5 billion in improper payments if issues aren't corrected, the auditor warned.
Fraudsters stole an estimated $32 billion by exploiting weak safeguards in COVID relief programs overseen by the Department of Finance. California spent roughly $24 billion on homelessness initiatives over five years, yet officials can’t account for where the money went or what measurable results it produced. During that same period, California's homeless population grew by 32%, and by 53% over the last decade.
Newsom’s high-speed rail project has cost taxpayers around $18 billion without completing a single usable segment of track. The project broke ground in 2015 and has endured endless delays, with officials purchasing $1.4 billion worth of properties across 171 miles that haven't seen a single train.
This is the Democrat playbook. They throw taxpayer money to their cronies with virtually no oversight, build programs that invite abuse, and then blame Trump when they’re caught.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
Fraud is a feature for Democrats, not a bug. It fuels their political machines and keeps voters locked into government dependency, creating an endless cycle that only helps them maintain power.

Now the Trump administration needs to clean up the mess. That job means more than prosecuting those at the bottom of the ladder. The real responsibility lies with the governors and bureaucrats who stripped away safeguards, ignored red flags, and looked the other way while billions walked out the door. If accountability never reaches the top, Democrats will keep running the same racket every time they regain power.
