Can We Blame Joe Biden for the Attack on Two National Guardsmen?

On Wednesday, an Afghan national ambushed and shot two National Guardsmen near the White House. Reports indicate the suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, had traveled from Washington State specifically for this attack. While I hesitate to assign blame except to the shooter, it’s essential to consider why this individual was here. This raises the question: Does Joe Biden bear responsibility for this tragedy?

The more details we find out, the more it becomes clear this never would have happened had it not been for Joe Biden.

Lakanwal entered our country in September 2021 through Operation Allies Welcome, the chaotic evacuation program Biden's team scrambled together after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. The administration promised Americans that every Afghan coming through those gates had been thoroughly vetted.

Clearly, they weren’t.

Then-Press Secretary Jen Psaki stood at the White House podium and declared, "I can absolutely assure you that no one is coming into the United States of America who has not been through a thorough screening and background check process.”

She lied.

We all remember the chaos of Biden’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal. Many Republicans predicted that something bad would ultimately happen here in America as a result of the administration bringing in so many unvetted people. And sadly, they were proven right.

Lakanwal's immigration status adds another layer to this debacle. The Afghan national had overstayed his visa, which expired in September, making him an illegal alien at the time of the attack. So Biden's team brought him here under false promises of security, and he rewarded our nation by hunting soldiers on American streets. The vetting process Biden touted as "stringent" and "extensive" somehow missed warning signs that this individual would drive across the entire country with plans to execute members of our National Guard.

President Donald Trump wasted zero time condemning the attack as "an act of evil, an act of hatred, and an act of terror.” He called the shooting "a crime against our entire nation" and "a crime against humanity.”

Trump also announced the deployment of an additional 500 National Guardsmen to Washington and demanded the suspect face "swift and certain justice.” More significantly, Trump ordered a reexamination of every Afghan brought to the United States under Biden's program, emphasizing "removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here or add benefit to our country.”

Biden may have left office, but his legacy casts a dark shadow over the nation. Two soldiers lie in hospitals because Biden failed to prioritize American security. Trump appears emboldened to take an even more aggressive approach to immigration enforcement than he was before. And rightfully so.

Trump has done a tremendous job closing the border and deporting those who came here illegally. But, clearly, the illegals that Biden imported from other countries are a separate problem Trump must address. Fortunately, we know Trump will take decisive actions to clean up Biden’s mess and prevent such problems from recurring.
