Have the Democrats Learned Their Lesson on Impeachment?

House Democrats impeached President Trump not once, but twice — and he not only survived, he came roaring back and won reelection last year. That outcome was a clear and decisive rebuke of the left’s nonstop hysteria and abuse of the impeachment process. You’d think that kind of political reality check would finally make the message sink in. But apparently, not everyone got the memo. On Tuesday, Rep. Shri Thanedar of Michigan threw his own party into chaos by forcing a vote on yet another round of impeachment folly — an act so tone-deaf and self-serving that even fellow Democrats couldn’t hide their outrage.

In a scene straight out of a political farce, Thanedar stormed the House floor and dropped seven articles of impeachment. By declaring them “privileged,” he guaranteed a floor vote within two legislative days, effectively forcing every House Democrat to take a stand — whether they wanted to or not.

Believe it or not, most didn’t.

The articles accuse Trump of everything from “tyranny” to corruption to abuse of power, mostly tied to his executive actions and personal finances. Sound familiar? I’m shocked Thanedar didn’t include Trump’s refusal to get a White House dog among the "high crimes and misdemeanors."

In any case, this script has been played — and flopped — before. But Thanedar, who’s facing a tough primary challenge back home, apparently thought now was a good time to remind America just how unserious some Democrats remain when it comes to governing.

And many House Democrats are angry.

One Democrat rep, speaking anonymously to Axios, exploded: “This is the dumbest f—ing thing. Utterly selfish behavior.” Another didn’t mince words, either: “What a dumbs—t.”

A third was equally blunt, calling the impeachment move “a waste of f—ing time.”

I’d love to believe Democrats have finally kicked their addiction to bogus impeachments, but let’s be honest: We know better. President Trump’s only been back in office a few months, and despite the left’s constant attempts to scandalize everything he does, they’ve got nothing. No high crimes, no smoking gun — just noise. And with Democrats in the minority in both the House and Senate, any talk of impeachment is dead on arrival. They want to sound tough on Trump for their base, but Thanedar’s stunt is going to put swing-district Democrats in an impossible spot. A vote on impeachment forces them to pick their poison and alienate either the far-left base or the moderates.

Either way, it risks political suicide over an issue that won’t go anywhere.

This all raises a question Democrats ought to be asking themselves: Have they learned anything at all from their two failed impeachment attempts during Trump’s first term?

Don’t count on it. Don’t take their current opposition to impeaching Trump as evidence that they’ve come to their senses. Trust me, they’re not shutting the door on impeachment; they just want it tabled until after the 2026 midterms.

When you consider the rhetoric Democrats continue to use against Trump, there’s no doubt that impeachment is 100% on the table the second they win back the House.
