How the Democrats Destroyed Their Brand

For years, Democrats have positioned themselves as the champions of the average American, the working class, minorities, women, and, of course, the party of civil rights. This narrative has been central to their brand for as long as I can recall. However, they have consistently failed to live up to that brand, and now voters are increasingly skeptical of the message they’re trying to sell.

So what do the voters think of the Democratic Party today? Well, the latest Echelon Insights Voter Omnibus spells trouble for the Democratic Party, revealing deep-seated concerns among voters about its priorities and policies.

When asked about the biggest problem with the Democratic Party, respondents overwhelmingly pointed to disorganization and division (15%), weakness on border security and illegal immigration (14%), and being out of touch with the working class (13%). These figures highlight a major issue: Democrats are failing to connect with ordinary Americans, and their open-border policies continue to erode trust among voters who want a secure nation.

The poll also underscores a growing backlash against the Democratic Party’s relentless focus on race and gender issues, with 11% saying that’s the party’s biggest problem. Another 10% point to the party’s embrace of socialism and government control of the economy. These numbers indicate that Americans are increasingly frustrated with a party that prioritizes identity politics over real-world economic concerns. Even more telling, only 12% of respondents said the Democrats don’t have a problem at all — meaning the vast majority recognize significant issues within the party.

Meanwhile, Republicans fare better in this poll, with 22% of respondents saying the GOP has no problems. While the poll points to concerns about Donald Trump’s influence on the GOP, the party's core policy positions do not generate nearly as much skepticism as the Democrats’ radical agenda.

Perhaps the most revealing aspect of this survey is the reaction to a Trump campaign ad tagline: “Kamala is for they/them, Trump is for you.” The message, clearly aimed at exposing the Democrats’ obsession with woke ideology, resonated strongly with voters. A striking 46% associated the tagline with Kamala Harris supporting transgender people, while 28% linked it to support for illegal immigrants. Another 26% felt it implied Harris was out of touch with everyday working Americans, reinforcing the perception that the Democratic Party has abandoned blue-collar voters in favor of fringe activism.

This poll is yet another warning sign for Democrats heading into 2026 and 2028. Their focus on identity politics, their failure on border security, and their disconnect from working-class Americans are all fueling dissatisfaction. If they continue down this road, they risk further alienating the very voters they need to win over. Meanwhile, Trump’s message of putting ordinary Americans first appears to be resonating — and the best part is that based on their recent actions, Democrats haven't figured out how to fix it.
