Pete Hegseth’s confirmation vote is expected to happen on Friday. It looks like he’ll be confirmed, but we’ll have to wait and see.
The last few weeks have really been something because Democrats have been trying desperately to thwart his nomination. The latest attempt included an affidavit from a disgruntled former sister-in-law who claimed Hegseth abused his ex-wife. That scheme crumbled when the ex-wife in question came out and said no such abuse occurred.
In the end, Democrats have proven they are not above resorting to disinformation and double standards to resist Trump.
Case in point: Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s recent remarks on MSNBC. In an effort to explain her opposition to Hegseth, she went on a rant about the importance of the Secretary of Defense role and inadvertently revealed a glaring inconsistency in her approach to accountability and leadership as she tried to shame Republicans into not supporting Hegseth.
“I never want to speak for someone else, but tonight has got to be a real soul-searching night for people to be saying, ‘I could vote to make that guy secretary of defense.' But remember, secretary of defense is a very, very special role in our government,” she told MSNBC Rachel Maddow. “This is the person who gets the call when things are truly spinning out of control when really scary data has come in, when information, when something around the globe has really gone in a bad way because it is the secretary of defense who makes the call on, 'Is now the time to call the president? If so, what am I going to tell the president? Is now the time to call in other experts to get our allies involved?'“
“This is the person who gets the call when things are truly spinning out of control,” she continued and added that the position requires someone who is “ready to go 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

"Secretary of Defense has to be ready to go 24 hours a day, 365 days a year."
A year ago, Lloyd Austin disappeared for days without informing the White House.

This is undoubtedly true, but is this something that will keep Warren up at night if Hegseth is confirmed? Is this an issue that transcends partisanship for her, where national security simply trumps all other considerations? Of course not. We know it doesn’t. We know this because we saw no passion for accountability from her when reports surfaced last year Joe Biden’s Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin went missing for days — without the White House being aware.
For our VIPs: The Left Wants to Weaponize Disinformation, Not End It
If the role demands constant readiness and sound judgment as Warren claims, shouldn’t Austin’s unexplained absence have been cause for the same soul-searching she demands of Republicans and prompted her and other Democrats to demand Austin’s resignation?
Warren went on to state, “We cannot trust the safety of our country to someone who has demonstrated repeatedly using very bad judgment... This is not a moment to take that kind of risk with our national security.” This would be a valid point coming from her if she hadn’t already proved that she couldn’t care less about this issue when it’s a Democrat’s Secretary of Defense.
Judgment is absolutely critical for a Secretary of Defense, yet Lloyd Austin repeatedly showed terrible judgment and was never held accountable for it, whether it was after the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan or going missing and not telling the White House about it.
The implications of a missing Secretary of Defense are far more severe than the hypothetical scenarios Warren outlines in her criticism of Hegseth. The silence from Warren — and the left at large — on this issue reeks of partisanship and proves that their attacks on Hegseth aren’t legitimate; they’re just making excuses to oppose his nomination and resist Trump.
Warren’s remarks should serve as a reminder: the left’s constant hand-wringing over figures like Hegseth isn’t about principles or qualifications. It’s about politics. When the chips are down, their silence on actual failures of leadership from her own side speaks volumes. It’s time to call out this hypocrisy for what it is.
