Here's What Will Happen if Kamala Harris Wins

There's more on the line than the presidency in November. Democrats weren't shy about the fact that they blackmailed Joe Biden into dropping out not only because he couldn't win but also because he was a drag on down-ballot races. Sure enough, Democrats' chances of holding the Senate and flipping the House are better today than two weeks ago. So what will happen if Kamala Harris wins?

We know the answer because the Democrats tried all sorts of power grabs when they had the House, Senate, and White House that would not only fundamentally transform this country but also preserve power for the Democrats.

Democrats have long depended on the courts to block conservative policies and advance their agenda. Once Biden took office, they quickly moved to regain a left-wing majority on the Supreme Court by proposing to expand the number of seats, a strategy known as court-packing. Biden had been silent on this issue before the 2020 election but then established a Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court to study and recommend actions. The commission ultimately rejected the idea, but Biden is still hellbent on "reforming" the Supreme Court. Harris will no doubt continue that effort.

November represents the Republican Party's best chance to win control of the Senate, and it remains to be seen how much stronger Democrats will be with Kamala on the top of the ticket. If Democrats manage to maintain control of the upper chamber, the filibuster may become the first victim. We know they will do this because they tried it back in 2021. Fortunately, Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema blocked this effort. Harris said back in 2019 that she would eliminate the filibuster to pass the Green New Deal, so you better believe that will happen if she wins and has majorities in the House and Senate.

House Democrats voted to make the District of Columbia the 51st state two years ago. Of course, the Biden administration supported the idea, and you can bet that Harris would try to make it happen if she wins. Democrats are so desperate to make D.C. a state that they wrote legislation that effectively served as a workaround to the constitutional requirement of a neutral non-state district for the federal government.

The Washington, D.C. Admission Act attempted to bypass this by designating a small parcel of land as the federal district. If admitted as a state, D.C. would become the bluest in the union, gaining two senators and likely one representative with full voting rights. As if trying to make the District of Columbia a state wasn't bad enough, Democrats also want to make Puerto Rico a state. So if both of those efforts succeed, Democrats would get four senators and four or five representatives out of it.

And then, of course, are the Democrats' efforts to overhaul U.S. election laws to create a permanent Democrat majority. In 2021, the Democrat-controlled House pushed through the Freedom to Vote Act, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and the For the People Act. These bills aimed to federalize state election laws, undermining election integrity across the nation. Key provisions included universal mail-in voting, accepting ballots up to ten days post-election, automatic voter registration, allowing felons to vote, and abolishing the Electoral College.

The next time Democrats hold majorities in the House and Senate, they will try this again. If Harris is president, she will sign them into law. If you find all of this terrifying, then good. Because it is.
