In a new post on Public, independent journalist Michael Shellenberger says, "It’s quickly becoming apparent that 'gender medicine' is on the wrong side of history,” and that he believes the backlash against so-called “gender-affirming care” and biological men playing women’s sports and being housed in women’s prisons is accelerating.
Shellenberger highlighted the recent developments concerning the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and the UK government's National Health Service England (NHSE) as proof. Last week, internal files from WPATH showed "widespread medical mistreatment of children, adolescents, and vulnerable adults.” On Tuesday, the NHSE implemented a blanket ban on puberty blockers—which will effectively close the door on kids with gender confusion transitioning.
As Shellenberger notes, such a move wouldn’t be possible without a strong bipartisan consensus on this issue. Even Keir Starmer, the leader of the British Labour Party, said that “common sense has to prevail in terms of safety and integrity of sport” and argued that biological males should not be allowed to participate in women’s sports.
If only more Democrats in the United States could say the same.
Shellenberger believes this means it’s "only a matter of time for liberal-minded Americans and Democrats to hear about the changes in Europe and start to impose reforms."

"That may happen as early as this year if Republicans turn gender medicine and boys and men in girls and women's sports into political issues,” Shellenberger predicts. "But even if it doesn’t happen this year, it will happen soon. Every day brings more writing on the wall."
I’d love to believe this is true. I would. But as evidence comes to light that the transgender movement is built on junk science, we haven’t seen the political left in America have an epiphany. Nor have they been moved at all by more and more women losing competitions and opportunities to men. We’re not seeing self-reflection among the political left in America that we’ve seen happening in Europe over the past few years. Instead, we see the left doubling down on the transgender craze, fighting tooth and nail against policies designed to prevent children from being butchered and protect women and girls from having their privacy violated and opportunities stolen from them.

The problem isn’t just leftist politicians. Public schools are allowing sexually explicit materials in schools to groom children for the LGBTQ lifestyle. Hollywood has made huge efforts to promote LGBTQ themes to children as well.
While polls have suggested that the public overwhelmingly opposes biological males playing on women’s sports teams and so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors, Democrats in Washington, D.C., and the gatekeepers of popular culture do not, nor does the medical establishment, which the huge profit margins for gender procedures have blinded. The writing on the wall is being ignored by those who see political and financial gain in pushing transgenderism on vulnerable people with mental health issues who have been duped into thinking that dangerous drugs and cosmetic surgery are some miracle fix that will solve their problems.
I hope that the United States will follow in the footsteps of the United Kingdom and end this dangerous and evil fad that is targeting children, but I don’t see it happening any time soon.
