As far as the 2024 presidential election is concerned, there appears to be significant agreement that things aren't looking good for Joe Biden. Several voices on the left are calling for Biden to bow out, including elected leaders, political strategists, and even several pundits. It's not a good look for so many to be giving a powerful vote of no confidence in the incumbent president, but when things look this dire, it's hard not to empathize with their concern. When winning is the most important thing, you want to ensure that you put the best candidate forward, and there's little reason to believe that Joe Biden is the best the Democrats have to offer.
And if he is, that's really sad.
For the longest time, Biden's team has been in denial. Heck, the fact that Biden even sought a second term was an indication they weren't paying attention to the polls, and indeed, the decision caught many by surprise. Biden was barely expected to last a single term, and now he's trying for a second?
Team Biden clearly believes it can pull off a miracle despite all the factors that are going against him. Perhaps the biggest problem he faces is concerns over his age and mental state—mostly because these are issues that Biden cannot control. He could change his policies on the economy or immigration in the hopes of winning over the public. He won't, but he could. But, he can't make himself younger or reverse the obvious signs of his diminished mental faculties. He can put himself out there in the hopes of assuaging concerns about his physical and mental health, but it's quite clear that doing so is risky because it tends to reveal those problems, not disprove them.
And when he does that, it's really, really hard for the media to ignore it. But, Team Biden wants them to, and they're really upset about it.

"Months out from November’s high-stakes election, the White House and the Biden campaign are going public with growing frustration over how the president is being portrayed in the media," reports The Hill. "Biden’s camp is taking swings over press coverage of the incumbent as his reelection bid fends off persistent concerns about whether the 81-year-old is fit for another four years in the Oval Office."
According to the report, Democrats seem to think that Donald Trump is getting treated better by the media than Joe Biden—comparing it to the 2016 campaign, when, they say, coverage of Hillary's private email server dominated the news cycles.
"Now, some Biden allies see a similar pattern playing out where reporters fixate on the president’s periodic verbal slips and questions about his age while his likely November opponent faces dozens of felonies and suggests he would undermine international alliances, crackdown on immigrants and abortion access," the report says.
When Democrats are complaining about media coverage, that's a tell-tale sign they are panicking. In the aftermath of the Hur report, Biden had more than his fair share of defenders making excuses for him. CNN's Erin Burnett called his "verbal cul-de-sacs" part of his brand, and John King conflated Biden's memory issues with his stutter—something he overcame many many years ago.
And yet, the Biden campaign is complaining about the media? If the media covered Biden and Trump the same way, Biden would have a 20% approval rating by now.
When Democrats complain about how the media covers them, they are panicking. And the Biden campaign is most certainly in panic mode if they think the problem is how the media covers him.
