Biden Can’t Run From His Age, but He Sure Is Trying

The chances are good that if you’ve ever gone for a job interview, you’ve probably been asked to name your biggest weakness. The most obvious thing to do in that situation is spin something positive as a weakness, such as “I work too hard,” or “I’m a perfectionist,” or something like that.

Well, Joe Biden is in the middle of a job interview right now, and he’s trying to pull the same thing. While no one may be asking outright what his biggest weakness is, Joe Biden and his campaign are trying too hard to spin one of his biggest weaknesses as a positive: his age.

"Current and former aides say Biden is extraordinarily energetic for his age,” reports Axios.

When you’re done laughing, continue on.

According to the report, Biden frequently makes some version of the following quip. "I feel so much younger than my age.” Hilariously, though, even those around him aren’t buying it. “[H]is repeated insistence that he feels so young can draw eye rolls: Some current and former aides believe Biden doesn't realize how old he can come across,” the report continues.

Voters on both sides of the aisle have indicated they think Biden is too old, too frail, and too cognitively impaired to be president, and as amusing as it is that Biden claims to feel so much younger than he really is, if his own aides can’t hear him say so without rolling their eyes, can Team Biden really expect the public to fall for it?

The Axios article tries really hard to give the impression that Joe Biden—who has spent roughly 40% of his presidency on vacation—is some kind of workhorse, leaving his aides in the dust. They even try to convince us that his wife, Jill Biden, is trying to get him to rest more.

Rest more? How could someone who spends so much time on vacation and often has abbreviated work days at the White House possibly rest more?

This is the message they're trying to push.

"This is something that Biden's been doing for his whole life," Biden's longtime friend and former chief of staff told Axios. "He always wants to do more."

Last month, Biden's press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, hilariously claimed she would "put the president’s stamina, the president’s wisdom, ability to get this done on behalf of, of the American people against anyone — anyone on any day of the week."

While Biden's team is pretending Joe Biden is a workaholic who feels young and vigorous, Democrat insiders have been expressing concern for months because they are concerned that Biden's physical and mental deficiencies might cost the Democrats the White House in 2024.

'The greatest concern is that his biggest liability is the one thing he can't change. Among all the unpredictables, there is one thing that is sure: the age arrow only points in one direction,” former Obama advisor David Axelrod said last month. “Only [Joe Biden] can make this decision. If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it's in HIS best interest or the country’s?"

Biden reportedly didn't appreciate that.

But it's true, and no amount of puff pieces in friendly media will convince people that Biden is a spring chicken.
