We've all seen the same pattern from leftists: whenever there's a shooting, blame the guns and call for more gun control. Has it ever gone a different way? The radical left would sooner blame guns, gun manufacturers, and gun rights groups for a shooting than the actual shooter. They'd much rather infringe upon the rights of law-abiding citizens than address the root of the problem.
Heck, they won't even acknowledge that there is a root to the problem outside of the mantra that guns are evil and should be banned. The link between mass shootings and mental health problems is routinely ignored. Why? Because that's not helping the narrative.
The narrative is very important. Earlier this year, when a transgender-identifying woman mass shooter targeted a Christian elementary school in Tennessee, the left did not want her transgender identification to be an issue. But it most certainly was. Leftists have sought to normalize and mainstream transgenderism, ignoring the links between gender dysphoria and other mental health problems.
We've all heard the claims from the left that trans people are the victims of mass genocide and are generally non-violent. But earlier this year, I calculated that transgender people are nearly five times as likely to be mass shooters as non-transgender people. And that’s before we even consider the question as to whether the “gender identity” of every mass shooter in the incidents cataloged is even known.
The left would rather protect the narrative than potential victims of mass shootings. And it's not just the narrative on gun control leftists are trying to protect either.
A couple of years ago, despite having an extensive criminal history going back more than two decades, Darrell Brooks, Jr. was let out on a meager $1,000 bail after running over his girlfriend with his car. It was a ridiculously low bail considering not only his actions but his criminal history. While he was out on bail, he ran an SUV into a crowded Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisc., killing six people and injuring dozens more.
For some reason, bail reform has become the latest cause célèbre of the left in the Biden era, despite constant reminders that letting criminals back on the streets only causes more crime. During his 2020 presidential campaign, Biden called the cash bail system “the modern-day debtors’ prison.”

Last week, a man shot and killed six people in Austin and San Antonio, Texas, in a day-long shooting spree. He had previously been charged with assaulting his mother, father, and sister and had been bailed out by a "progressive" nonprofit called Texas Organizing Project (TOP) last year.
"We take our responsibilities seriously and acknowledge that we must address both the immediate impact of this tragedy and the broader implications for our bail program," the nonprofit said in a statement. TOP also acknowledged that "our assessments cannot anticipate the future actions of individuals."
Whether it's guns, bail reform, defunding the police, or pretty much anything remotely connected to criminal justice, for the left, the narrative and agenda trump everything else, even the lives of innocent people.
