Good Wednesday morning.

Here is what’s on the president’s agenda today:

  • The president receives his daily intelligence briefing
  • President Trump delivers remarks at the Latino Coalition Legislative Summit
  • The president arrives at his private residence to attend dinner

Trump DOJ sues California

This is fantastic. The lawsuit targets three California laws that specifically interfere with the federal responsibility to deal with immigration. The laws prevent corporations and prisons from cooperating with federal authorities. Another law allows the state to monitor federal DHS facilities. California is protecting criminals, some violent, at the expense of public safety. How can any resident of the state support this?

“The Department of Justice and the Trump Administration are going to fight these unjust, unfair, and unconstitutional policies,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions was expected to tell California law enforcement officers on Wednesday. “We are fighting to make your jobs safer and to help you reduce crime in America.”

California’s Attorney General Xavier Becerra had this to say: “We’ve seen this B-rated movie before. So we’re not totally surprised.” Governor Jerry Brown tweeted, “At a time of unprecedented political turmoil, Jeff Sessions has come to California to further divide and polarize America. Jeff, these political stunts may be the norm in Washington, but they don’t work here. SAD!!!”

California will ultimately lose this battle. It may take awhile to wind its way through the court, but the federal government will win in the end.

Gowdy, Goodlatte want special counsel

Fox News is reporting that Reps Gowdy and Goodlatte want a special counsel to investigate:

“conflicts of interest” and decisions “made and not made” by current and former Justice Department officials in 2016 and 2017, noting that “the public interest requires” the action.

“Matters have arisen—both recently and otherwise—which necessitate the appointment of a Special Counsel. We do not make this observation and attendant request lightly,” Gowdy and Goodlatte wrote in a letter to the DOJ.

“What changed for me was the knowledge that there are two dozen witnesses that Michael Horowitz, the [DOJ] Inspector General, would not have access to,” Gowdy said on FNC. “When I counted up 24 witnesses that he would not be able to access were he to investigate it, yeah only one conclusion, that’s special counsel.”

2018 Election update

Texas held it’s primary elections yesterday and one closely-watched race, the Senate, will see incumbent Ted Cruz face Democrat Rep. Beto O’Rourke in the general election. There are a few runoffs to be had in some of the House races. Democrat turnout was the highest seen in 16 years.

Vermont also had an election yesterday. Former presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders’ step-daughter lost her bid for mayor of Burlington, Vermont.

We’re still talking about gun control

Get ready for the March for Your Life, a progressive political event that will use children as front-men to empower the progressive fight against the Second Amendment. The “March” will happen next week on March 14 all over the country.

Who is paying for this? Oprah, the Clooneys, Katzenberg, Spielberg, Everytown (Bloomberg), the usual suspects. Also Aetna, in case you want to stop patronizing companies trying to disarm you.

I’m not interested in hearing about firearm policy from kids who don’t know anything about firearms (and according to their own age-restriction policy recommendation, are not capable of even owning a gun) and I’m not interested in hearing from Hollywood perverts/rapists/degenerates with armed guards about how I should disarm. Law abiding citizens don’t need more hurdles to purchase a firearm. Criminals already ignore the law. These “feel good” policies are merely cosmetic and designed to hurt the gun culture, not stop gun violence.

Meanwhile, at least some folks know where the blame ought to be assigned. Two Parkland shooting survivors announce intent to sue sheriff’s office, school system. Isn’t it amazing that the media/left isn’t covering the actual delinquents that allowed the Florida school shooter to remain free in society despite numerous instances of violent and troubling behavior? Or the police force that hung around outside the school while children were shot?
