Good Tuesday morning!
Here is what’s on the president’s agenda today:
- In the afternoon, President Donald J. Trump will depart the White House en route to the U.S. Capitol, where he will speak with the Republican Senate Caucus.
- The president will then return to the White House. Later in the afternoon, the president will meet with congressional leadership.
The latest in [alleged] harassment news
Our long national nightmare continues as more sordid activities by [alleged] powerful deviants and predators come to light.
First up we have the story of a former deputy chief of staff who is accusing Rep. John Conyers (D) of inappropriate touching. Here’s a nice description of the Senate Ethics Committee by another one of Conyers’ accusers. It’s very similar to what I wrote about the committee yesterday.
Senator Al Franken held a press conference yesterday to make excuses, apologize and say he was embarrassed, which is the threshold for forgiveness if one is on the right political team.
Rep. Al Green (D), who is very focused on impeaching President Trump, is being sued by a former drug-addicted staffer.
Lucinda Daniels, his onetime district director, claimed she suffered a hostile work environment, claimed sexual harassment and demanded $1.8 million. Green sued her, saying she was using their sexual relationship to shake him down at the behest of other unnamed conspirators.
Over on the left coast, “California Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra resigned Monday following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, making him the first lawmaker to leave office amid a spate of reports rocking the state Capitol.”
Speaking generally now, “Convicted Pedophile Appears On Volunteer List For Democratic Campaign In Maine” seems problematic. Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) says “they’re all pigs” of his boundary-challenged colleagues. The Sunshine State doled out $11m in harassment “settlements.”
Moving along to Hollywood, The Daily Caller writes, Harvey Weinstein Accused Of ‘Sex Trafficking’ In Latest Lawsuit. The WaPo tells us that CBS is dropping Jeremy Piven’s show amid sexual misconduct allegations against the actor.
Trump rips “Indian” Elizabeth Warren
President Trump took a swipe at Senator Elizabeth Warren, self-proclaimed Native American, and the news cycle went crazy. Or did it? It’s pretty standard in the Trump era to see the media pick something Trump said/did/tweeted and proceed to FREAK OUT and work themselves into a frenzy. It’s exhausting.
Yesterday, Trump was addressing a crowd of Navajo military veterans and said, “I just want to thank you because you are very, very special people. You were here long before any of us were here. Although, we have a representative in Congress who has been here a long time … longer than you — they call her Pocahontas!” The jab was obviously directed at Elizabeth Warren.
Many media elites felt this was “racist” — a favorite, although predictable, anti-Trump narrative — but since Elizabeth Warren isn’t really a Native American (is she?) is it actually racism? Does it matter, since the media will keep saying it’s racism anyway? (That’s how you got Trump™, by the way.) Why aren’t the media angry that Warren has misrepresented herself for professional gain?
Bill Jacobson at Legal Insurrection says it’s time for Elizabeth Warren to apologize for her Native American deception.
Flynn team meets with Special Counsel team
The Trump-hating media is abuzz with speculation that short-lived NSC Advisor Mike Flynn is going to “turn” on the Trump team and reveal the goods on whatever “crime” this ridiculous investigation is supposed to be discovering.
Trump’s legal team confirmed late last week that Flynn’s attorney Robert Kelner alerted the team that he could no longer engage in privileged discussions about defense strategy in the case — a sign Flynn is preparing to negotiate with prosecutors over a deal that could include his testimony against the president or senior White House officials.
That process would typically include a series of off-the-record discussions in which prosecutors lay out in detail for Flynn and his lawyers the fruits of their investigation into his activities. Prosecutors would also provide Flynn an opportunity to offer what’s called a proffer, detailing what information, if any, he has that could implicate others in wrongdoing.
Is Flynn looking for a deal?
I’m skeptical. Perhaps Flynn, like Paul Manafort, may be busted on a process crime or improper paperwork, but what exactly did Flynn do, or know about that involved working with RUSSIANS to influence the election?
“No one should draw the conclusion that this means anything about Gen. Flynn cooperating against the president,” Trump legal team attorney Jay Sekulow said.
