Melania Trump might not enjoy Michelle Obama's fawning press -- I'm being delicate here -- but the hopeful and forgiving message delivered by our current FLOTUS is so much more genuinely American than the former FLOTUS's speech last week that it drives one point home:

America is an idea any foreigner can embrace, and that any native-born can reject.

@stacey I think it was wise to do at least one speech in front of an audience. 

I think our First Lady is closing it out this evening. In front of an audience with applause. Well done Melania Trump. Your focus on children is inspiring and genuine. Hearing about learning from our history while focusing on the future in a diverse and inclusive nation from a successful immigrant woman is powerful. 

FLOTUS calls for an end to the violence, urging peace and calm. 

Try .. for a few minutes... to resist attacking this woman, mom, immigrant, wife who did not seek this spotlight.

Public speaking is difficult for most people.

Now, try public speaking in a second language (one of five you speak). Using three teleprompters. In the glare of enough lights to turn night into day. With the whole entire world watching, because your husband is President of the United States. 

Melania Trump is handling this incredibly difficult task very well. 

If you watch how the left mocks people who speak at the RNC tonight, from people with absolutely no power to the First Lady, to the Secretary of State, that is really all you need to know. They are intolerant and authoritarian. Why would you give them power? They want to control what is permissible for you to think. 

No doubt the RNC will again be accused of ignoring COVID-19, but you'll know better.

So far, the leftist media have made fun of Indian-American, Nikki Haley and scoffed at a black former felon who turned his life around... Will they make fun of Melania’s accent next?

Euros look at us weird for smiling so much, but there was a study I remember from years ago that people from polyglot countries like ours smile more in order to show friendliness. More uniform cultures don’t because presumably everyone looks and thinks more alike.

Personally, I like seeing the smiling even though I don't remember to do it often enough myself.
