President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka praised Lady Gaga’s half-time show at Super Bowl LI on Sunday. Trump’s daughter kept her praise short and sweet, but Lady Gaga’s show was mesmerizing — and will have a lasting cultural impact.
“Incredible performance by @ladygaga,” Trump tweeted, adding the hashtags #PepsiHalftime and #SuperBowl.

Indeed, Gaga’s performance garnered praise across the political spectrum, with Florida Senator Marco Rubio tweeting “one of the best #SuperBowl shows I can remember,” and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton identifying herself as “one of the 100 million #SuperBowl fans that just went #Gaga for the Lady, & her message to all of us.”
Gaga said she’d dreamed of performing in the half-time show since she was four, Vanity Fair reported. The starlet rocked her performance, starting off with a base jump, leading a crowd of dancers into the shape of a football, literally dropping a mic before jumping down yet again to catch a football in midair.

Perhaps one of the best parts of the performance was Gaga’s conscious decision not to let politics detract from the celebration (unless people count the opening song or “Born This Way”), and that decision paid off. Vanity Fair reported that Gaga was mentioned 2.1 million times on Twitter between 7:50 and 8:40 p.m. Sunday night. All the songs she performed during the show (which were weighted more toward the pre-Joanne phase of her career) were immediately discounted on iTunes. Users flocked to her songs, as “Million Reasons” hit number 1 on iTunes, and “Born This Way,” “Poker Face,” and “Bad Romance” shot up to the top 10 (at numbers 5, 7, and 9, respectively). Lady Gaga’s first hit, “Just Dance,” reached number 13. The deluxe-edition of Joanne is the top-selling album on iTunes currently.
Along with this iTunes strategy, Team Gaga also announced (in a post-game GIF) that the star will be going on tour later this year. According to her Facebook page, Gaga’s “World Tour” will start in August and go across the United States and Canada through December. She has no events scheduled after December 14, when she will perform in Salt Lake City, Utah.
There is no word yet as to whether she will begin her shows with a fall from the stadium roof as she did at the Super Bowl, but I would expect some pretty impressive shows nonetheless.
