Our men and women in uniform and our veterans sacrifice every day, not just on Memorial Day, and they deserve the very best. We can never do enough to show them our gratitude for what they have given up in order for us to be free, for we owe them our very lives. There are many amazing organizations dedicated to helping soldiers and their families to live better lives. They help our heroes with such things as coping with PTSD, special housing for the disabled, food and clothing, and support for their families.

Here are five organizations helping our angels on earth that you and your family can get involved with to make their lives a little easier all year-round.

1. Warrior Angels Foundation

The Warrior Angels Foundation provides U.S. service members and veterans proper diagnoses and treatment plans put together by trained physicians for those who suffer from a traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). So many of our soldiers lose their lives to suicide without the proper treatments. We can’t afford to lose any more of these precious lives. Get involved today here.

2. Gary Sinise Foundation

The Gary Sinise Foundation was founded by actor Gary Sinise, who played Lt. Dan in “Forrest Gump.” It’s my personal favorite and our family has donated often to it. The foundation helps build custom homes for our wounded vets, complete with automated amenities to make their lives easier. “Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band,” through their Invincible Spirit Festivals, have traveled around from city to city to raise the spirits of and bring awareness to our military and first responders. The day-long festivals offer a welcome break from the trials of rehabilitation. These angels on earth also provide healthy meals to those in need across the country. 3. Hope for the Warriors

Other than the soldier himself, no one knows how difficult it can be to return home from war like the spouse does. Founded by military wives in 2006, this beautiful organization’s mission is to provide a better quality of life for post-9/11 service members who have sustained psychological and physical scars while in the line of duty, and for military families transitioning into civilian life. Their efforts include health and wellness counseling, career transitioning, and education programs. Visit these angels here.

4. The United Service Organization (USO)

The USO has been providing services to our military in the form of care packages, entertainment, and recreation services since 1942. There are 135 centers worldwide that provide internet services, housing assistance, libraries, family crisis counseling, and nursery facilities. Bob Hope and Robin Williams are just two celebrities who have traveled overseas with the USO to entertain the troops. Learn more about how you can help here.

5. Puppies Behind Bars

Puppies from the age of 8 weeks to 24 months live in prisons and are trained by the inmates to become service dogs for wounded war veterans and explosive-detection canines for law enforcement. The dogs learn commands to help with traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder. The dogs also help the inmates learn what it means to contribute to society. The love of a dog provides a very powerful healing force for all! Learn more about these angels here.
