When Is It Okay to Drop the C-Bomb on a Woman?

When her dad is a POTUS from the wrong party.

It’s been a little over 24 hours since Roseanne Barr blew up her career (again) for saying something really stupid and hateful (again). And now, yet another alleged comedienne is in the news for being a loony, vulgar piece of garbage.

First, some background. On Sunday, Ivanka Trump tweeted the following:

If you think that’s just a nice photo of a mother with her baby, you’re obviously not #Resisting enough.

Ladies and gentlemen: the comedic stylings of Ms. Samantha Bee.

WARNING: THE C-WORD, AND SOME TORTURED LOGIC JUSTIFYING ITS USE

Dang. That is not the word I’d use. Say what you want about Ivanka Trump, but she’s got plenty of feck.

As David Rutz at the Washington Free Beacon notes:

The remark came at the end of her weekly program “Full Frontal’s” A block, where the left-wing comic blasted the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy of separating illegal immigrant children from their parents at the border. Bee acknowledged this policy did not begin under President Trump, but she said he had made it worse.

So, Samantha Bee dropped a C-bomb on Ivanka because… um… because she posted a picture of herself holding her baby, at the same time that her dad is… er… continuing the immigration policies of the Obama administration. That’s what Samantha Bee is so performatively angry about. That’s what one of her writers wrote for her to say, and TBS approved it for broadcast. On a half-hour show that she gets an entire week to put together. That’s the best she could do.

Just as Roseanne was held to a different standard because she supports a president she’s not supposed to support, Samantha Bee will be held to a different standard because she hates a president she’s supposed to hate. It doesn’t have to make sense. It doesn’t have to be intellectually consistent. Tribalism doesn’t work that way. Ms. Bee just has to reinforce her ties to her tribe. She has to remind them that she’s one of them, not one of us. She’s expected to say certain things, with a certain level of invective. Even if it means she has to throw out that word on national TV.

Note to our friends on the other side of the aisle: Sorry to indulge the cliché yet again, but this really is how you got Trump. You claim to be righteous. You claim to be above the fray. But then the minute things don’t go your way, you leap right into the mud and start slinging. Then you make all the excuses in the world for a member of your own tribe. The benefit of the doubt is for insiders only.

I can’t judge Ms. Bee too harshly, though. This is a tough time for her. She got passed over for The Daily Show, and now she has to watch helplessly as a younger, #woker comedienne hosts the WHCD and gets a buzzworthy Netflix show and hogs all the press. That’s supposed to be her up there, saying awful things about women who work in the White House. She’s supposed to be America’s Trump-Hatin’ Sweetheart. So, if calling another woman a really bad word on TV is what Ms. Bee needs to do to get noticed again, that’s how it goes.

I won’t call for TBS to fire her. I also won’t shed a tear if they do. Even before this, I wouldn’t have watched her show if you paid me. I’m not the intended audience, and I don’t expect them to cater to my whims or care about my outrage.

Just keep this one in your quiver. The next time a lib tries to tell you that conservatives get away with everything, just say: “Ahem. Samantha Bee.”

At which point they’ll most likely reply: “Who???”

P.S. Speaking of women in broadcasting who say awful things, BuzzFeed is now reporting that Joy Reid posted 9/11 Truther crap on her old blog. It’s only been a few weeks since Reid got busted for posting homophobic stuff, and her response was to falsely claim she was hacked. She got away with that, so I don’t expect MSNBC to do anything about this either. Hey, it’s their reputation. If they want to keep destroying it so they can stay #woke, that’s literally their business.
