In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Kirk Cameron addresses the impact of his Christian faith upon his life and career. Asked whether he has had to deal with bias from Hollywood on account of his expressed views on marriage and abortion, Cameron answered:

Everybody has to deal with bias. If you draw a line and say, “Hey, I’m about truth,” well, those who aren’t will have a bias against you. If you say you’re about faith in God, you’ll have people stand up and cheer, then you’ll have others who won’t. That’s the way the world works. You have to know what it is that you are willing to take it on the chin for.

That simple advice proves immensely liberating. Far too often, our choice to speak up or remain silent is governed by whether what we say will draw criticism. Certainly, one should be mindful of the appropriate time, place, and manner for any expression. But we should never hold back merely to avoid offending people. No matter what you believe, no matter what you say, someone somewhere will be offended. So you might as well stand for what you hold to be true.
