Panel Criticizes U.S. Effort on Nanomaterial Risks

It was only a matter of time. A new technology, gaining momemtum, will eventually have to face government regulators on one variety or another.  This time it’s nano-tech’s turn. In the first step of the enevitable process, the National Research Council has released a report saying the Federal government isn’t doing enough to identify potential health and environmental risks posed by engineered materials.  Rest assured that, armed with the report and in the face of this criticzsm, there will be hearings and probably legislative action in the not too distant future.  Let’s hope that regulators can strike a reasonable approach to these issues and not cave to special interest ideas that may cripple an emerging and important industry.
