AMD Fusion Pushed Back to 2011

AMD’s new 45nm Shanghai chip launch yesterday to good reviews but that was yesterday. As if it doesn’t have enough troubles, AMD has announced that its much bally-hooed Fusion chip won’t be ready to ship until at least 2011. The company has a very agressive launch schedule of new products over the next 2 years and coupled with an aggressive reorganization, it remains to be seen if AMD can execute all of its plans.  The next 24 months for the chip maker may be the most difficult ever. The return to sustainable profitability still seems a long way off and it all has to be done with Intel breathing down its neck.  We hope that Jerry Sanders is enjoying his retirement – he fought enough of these battles.
