NYT: Google Looking To Invest In Energy Sector

Following on the heals of its recent announcement of an energy plan for the nation, Google is reportedly looking at expanding into the energy sector. The company has already hired a cadre of tech-types from a number of disciplines to explore developing new energy gadgets.  Meanwhile, Google.Org, the charity arm of the company, is reportedly looking at investments in renewable energy.  Dan Reicher, the Dot Org Director of Climate Change And Energy Initiatives said that the organization “wants to make money and wants to have an impact”.  Questions have been raised regarding whether Google should be taking its focus and resources away from the company’s main business thrust, especially considering the present economic environment.
