It’s the graphics, stupid. At least that’s what Nvidia believes and it continues to hammer that point home with products aimed directly at Intel. The company says that its new GPU (graphics processing unit) chip set for low-end computers runs faster than Intel’s fastest G45 set. Nvidia boasts that the new GPU will run all 30 of the top PC games at acceptable speeds, while 14 of those top 30 won’t run on an Intel-based machine. The struggle is reminiscent of the initial AMD Athlon launch, which was a superior graphics chip to Intel’s offerings at the time, but it was Intel who won the battle for the Microsoft Xbox. Never underestimate the power of Intel marketing.
