Michael Graham, Mongo, and That Was the Week That Was

Well Mongo made it to Texas, I said I would plug the companies that have helped us, and Direct Express Auto Transport is the company that got Mongo to Texas all safe and sound.  We were told it would be there by August 22, but when the driver arrived he said “no ma’am, it will be there on the 19th between noon and 4” and it was there on the 19th at about 2:00pm.

And while I’m thanking people, I’d like to thank Michael Graham of Atlanta’s News Radio 106.7 for having me on his show this morning to plug our upcoming program Bullets and Bourbon quickly coming up on December 3-6 at Texas’ glorious Rough Creek Lodge.  And before anyone whines about “how can you say the words bullets and bourbon in the same sentence,” the program is about the second amendment. It will have programs by speakers such as Glenn Reynolds, Dana Loesch, Kevin Williamson, Ed Morrissey and our own Roger Simon and Steve Green, along with Dr. Helen and Mark Rippetoe.  And yes there will be the opportunity to shoot — OMG! — guns in the afternoons. But the shootin’ of stuff and the drinkin’ of the bourbon will be separated by the best damned 16 oz of Texas steak (and other yummy noms) you can find anywhere. So untangle your knickers and stop worrying about us. (More details here for those with pre-untangled knickers.)

Finally we did SOOO much in Texas last week. We interviewed architects, contractors, and acoustic designers for our new garage/music studio/guest quarters, hired someone in each category, got started on drawings, completed the great post-monsoon mouse eradication of 2015, ate yummy BBQ and didn’t even mind the heat.

One of the funniest anecdotes occurred this past Friday, when we ate in Glen Rose’s Loco Coyote Grill and met one of our new neighbors. “So, what made you leave Fort Worth?”, Ed asked. “Well, in the early 1990s, we were watching the TV series Cops, and I said to my husband, “Honey, that house being raided by the police for drugs is right next door to ours. If they just pan the camera a little to the right, our house we’ll be on Cops. Might be time to move…”

But I do have to update y’all, hopefully this weekend.
