Bringing New Meaning to the Phrase 'Life at the Bottom'

There’s the line from an old Simpsons episode set in the future where Marge catches a glimpse of TV and shouts, “You know, Fox turned into a hardcore sex channel so gradually, I didn’t even notice,” before angrily shutting the channel off. It’s sort of a variation of Conquest’s Second Law taken to its logical extreme.

This recent post at the Gen X women-oriented Website The Frisky titled, “Maria Louise Del Rosario: 8 Things To Know About The Girl With The Anal Tattoo” certainly goes bottom-up on that trend. (Sorry.) It reads like an Americanized passage out of Theodore Dalrymple’s book Life at the Bottom from his days as a conservative working as a doctor and psychiatrist in the British prison system, not to mention his 1995 article on the excesses of tattooing, titled, “It Hurts, Therefore I Am.”
