Oh, That Liberal Media

Evan Thomas, then with Newsweek, in July of 2004:

On Inside Washington, a weekend discussion show taped at and run by the Gannett-owned CBS affiliate in Washington, DC, WUSA-TV, and carried by many PBS stations across the country, Thomas pointed out the boost to the Kerry/Edwards ticket provided by the press corps:

“There’s one other base here: the media. Let’s talk a little media bias here. The media, I think, wants Kerry to win. And I think they’re going to portray Kerry and Edwards — I’m talking about the establishment media, not Fox, but — they’re going to portray Kerry and Edwards as being young and dynamic and optimistic and all, there’s going to be this glow about them that some, is going to be worth, collectively, the two of them, that’s going to be worth maybe 15 points.”


Bill Clinton in 2006:

[Clinton] said Democrats of his generation tend to be naive about new media realities. There is an expectation among Democrats that establishment old media organizations are de facto allies — and will rebut political accusations and serve as referees on new-media excesses.

Bill in 2008:

I think most of the press people are in Obama’s demographic. They need a feeling more than they perceive they need a President. There have been times when I thought I was literally lost in a fun house.

Sense a theme? Meryl Yourish spots Marc Ambinder of the Atlantic playing from the same chorus this past week:

Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic drew this conclusion about the Tea Party candidates winning some Republican primaries over the establishment candidates:

The media is going to help the Democratic Party’s national messaging, which is that the GOP is a party full of Christine O’Donnells, a party that wants to take away your Social Security and your right to masturbate. Well, maybe not that last part, but then again, the implicit message of the party is that the GOP is about to elect a slate of hard social rightists to Congress.

When someone as widely-quoted as Ambinder is not even trying to hide the fact that the media is biased against Republicans, I think it’s time to stop pretending that the MSM is full of objective reporters writing unbiased articles.

If they’re still wondering why people are abandoning them in droves, simply send them a copy of this post. What do we really want? Honest, unbiased reporting with no hidden agenda. Failing that, we’ll take Fox News, which at least doesn’t have a liberal bias, and is, in many cases, the only network reporting objectively. Not that I think it’s truly “fair and balanced.” It leans right. Duh. But Fox is only one network. All the rest lean left. And they’re not even bothering to hide it anymore.


And Dan Riehl has audio of, as he puts it, “Union Thug [Describing] Media As SEIU’s ‘Willing Partners.'”

Meanwhile, as the Washington Examiner notes, “Every two years for the past decade and more, reports of voter fraud have been on the increase during election campaigns around the country. That is not coincidental.”

Which is why, come November, to paraphrase Stephen Kruiser during the race that brought Scott Brown to prominence, we should assume that every election is well within the margin of Acorn (not to mention SEIU), and remember Hugh Hewitt’s famous motto, since turnout is key.
