Magical Thinking Defined

“Democrats Have A Full-Blown Akin On Their Hands,” Dana Loesch writes at Fox News:

Chill, women, says Colorado Democrat Rep. Joe Salazar. While arguing for the disarmament of college students, Salazar says that even if women feel like they’re going to be raped, they may not, so who needs a firearm for protection? From Revealing Politics:

“It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop around at somebody.”

As Ace writes, “You see, ladies? If you just could keep in the Designated Zones, and not spend too much time in the Authorized Rape Zone, everything would just be jake.”

Twitchy rounds up additional reaction, including this:

You know — because according to Colorado Democrats, women won’t be raped if they just believe it enough.

Yes, magical thinking is powerful stuff, indeed:

And speaking of magical thinking, check out this recent headline and lede in USA Today: “Affordable Care Act will work if we embrace it — We can provide better care for our patients and ensure the long-term viability of our industry by embracing the reforms that have been put in place rather than fighting them.”

Just lie back and think of Barry, and it won’t hurt a bit. “There is no pain. Suddenly, while you’re asleep, they’ll absorb your minds, your memories and you’re reborn into an untroubled world..”

Update: Regarding CO State Rep. Joe Salazar, Mary Katharine Ham adds, “Downplaying the threat of rape? Check. Questioning the ability of grown, sentient women to perceive that threat? Check. A man in a position of power presuming to know what’s best for women he knows nothing about? Check. Limiting women’s choices by law in potentially life-threatening situations? Check. Six months ago, this was known as the frightful patriarchy. Now, it’s just another member of the Party of Women doing his part for the good work of gun control.”
