Journalism's PC Practitioners

I just did an interesting interview with a journalist from The Daily Beast on Men on Strike that left me kind of concerned with where journalism is going. The reporter seemed to think it was entirely fair to “profile” men for sexual assault because, as she put it, “one in four women are raped.” Leaving aside the validity of this dubious statistic, that seems like a kind of profiling, doesn’t it? I asked her if she would favor profiling black men because they commit crimes at a disproportionate rate and she reacted with disdain — “of course not!” But other than political correctness, what’s the difference? But one can be maintained in polite society, and the other cannot.
