ABC’s chief national correspondent Tom Llamas did a surprisingly good job reporting on the suspicious foreign business dealings of former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday.
ABC did such an outstanding job, in fact, that leading conservative pundits now believe the media is turning on Biden.
“That’s it, folks. If ABC News is going after the Hunter Biden-ChiCom-Ukraine scandal, it’s over. Somebody in the Democrat-media complex has decided it’s time to take Plugs out,” Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show Thursday.
ABC’s report focuses on Biden’s diplomatic work in China and Ukraine during the Obama years, and how lucrative business deals seemed to fall on Hunter Biden’s lap in those countries soon afterward.
In April of 2014, the then-vice president led a U.S. delegation to Kiev tasked with rooting out corruption and advocating for Ukraine to diminish its reliance on Russian oil. The Obama administration had pledged aid money to support a fledgling Ukrainian administration recovering from a revolution that ousted the country’s previous leader.
“You have to fight the cancer of corruption that is endemic in your system right now,” Biden told the Ukrainian parliament during the first of several post-revolution visits to the country. “And with the right investments and the right choices, Ukraine can reduce its energy dependence and increase its energy security.”
Within weeks of his visit, Ukraine’s largest energy producer, Burisma Energy, appointed Hunter Biden to a paid directorship on the firm’s board.
Llamas noted in ABC’s on-air report that Hunter had “just been discharged from the Navy reserves for testing positive for cocaine.”
Just months before, in December of 2013, there was a similar episode when the then-vice president led an Obama administration effort to tamp down tensions in the Far East. Hunter Biden disembarked from Air Force Two in Beijing alongside his father, ahead of a series of meetings between the vice president and several high-ranking members of China’s ruling party. Upon his departure, Joe Biden called Chinese President Xi Jinping a “good friend.”
Within weeks of that visit, Hunter Biden was doing business there, as a participant in a firm called Bohai Harvest RST. The corporation formed a novel Chinese-American investment partnership that involved such Chinese state-owned firms as the Bank of China. Reports at the time said they sought to raise $1.5 billion.
The 2020 frontrunner actually bragged in April that he pressured Ukraine to fire its top prosecutor, who happened to be leading a corruption investigation involving his son at the time.
Now, according to ABC, Biden is avoiding questions about his son on the campaign trail while his staff blocks reporters from approaching the candidate.
On his show Thursday afternoon, Rush Limbaugh noted that the reemergence of the Bidens’ suspicious dealings in Ukraine and China came just one day after he was criticized by his Democratic primary rivals for working with two segregationist Southern senators to “get things done.”
“Somebody’s decided it’s time to take [Biden] out. I’m not makin’ this up. They could have done this story any time,” Limbaugh argued. “But the one thing, the one thing the Democrat Party cannot ever permit is to have anybody in it appear to be even understanding or respectful or friendly with people who they claim are racist, sexist, bigots, homophobes, and what have you.”
Limbaugh added, “This is how the Drive-By Media gets you when they decide they’re gonna get you. This doesn’t happen to Democrats, folks.”
Conservative commentator Dan Bongino tweeted that he would be appearing on Fox News’ “Hannity” Thursday night to discuss Biden’s “disastrous campaign week.”
