Trump Lawyer John Dowd Calls out Mueller for Making False Statement in Own Report

Former Trump Attorney John Dowd

On Fox News’ Hannity Monday night, former Trump lawyer John Dowd blasted former special counsel Robert Mueller for committing a false statement in his own report, calling it “an outrage.”

The Justice Department on Friday released a transcript of a voicemail message Dowd had left for Robert Keller, a lawyer representing former national security adviser Michael Flynn. In the call, Dowd asked Keller for a “heads up” in case Flynn planned to say anything potentially damaging about Trump to Mueller’s team. Flynn was still in a joint defense agreement with Trump’s legal team at the time.

A side-by-side comparison of the Dowd transcript text and the Mueller report text shows that the Mueller report left out some key details from Dowd’s message. For reasons that have nothing to do with national security, Mueller had redacted the part of the voicemail where Dowd had said he wanted the heads up “not only for the president but for the country” and that he wasn’t asking for “any confidential information.”

Dowd called the Mueller team’s distortion “unfair and despicable” in a statement to lawyer @Techno_Fog.

Outraged by the discovery, House Intelligence ranking member Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) called for the release of “all backup and source information” for the Mueller report on Friday.

Dowd explained to Hannity that he had an “obligation as counsel to the president to find out what was going on,” and added, “I’m so glad Judge Sullivan ordered the transcript because we now know the truth.”

Dowd also called the entire Mueller report “a fraud” and predicted that similar tricks will be discovered.

“Isn’t it ironic that this man who kept indicting and prosecuting people for process crimes committed a false statement in his own report?” asked Dowd rhetorically. “By taking out half my words, they changed the entire tenor and the contents of that conversation with Robert Keller.”

Dowd fumed, “it’s an outrage and there’s probably more of it.”

The lawyer pointed out that Mueller’s team “not only went after Donald Trump, they went after his lawyers,” calling the transcript “a smear of me and my reputation.” Dowd noted that he’d met with Mueller and his team many times and they’d never had any questions about his voicemail message.

“Instead they pull this ambush in their report,” he complained.
