First Lady Melania Trump unveiled the White House’s gorgeous Christmas décor Monday, revealing a patriotic theme. “American Treasures” honors “the unique heritage of America,” according to a White House statement.
“This is a joyous time of year when we decorate the White House for the Christmas Season,” the first lady said in the statement. “Our theme honors the heart and spirit of the American people. Thank you to the many volunteers and staff who worked hard to decorate the halls of the People’s House in Christmas cheer. On behalf of my family, we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

The official White House Christmas Tree, situated in the Blue Room, is 18 feet tall and adorned with over 500 feet of blue velvet ribbon embroidered in gold with each state and territory.
The Grand Foyer and Cross Hall are decorated with 29 patriotic trees adorned with more than 14,000 red ornaments. “The choice of red is an extension of the pales, or stripes, found in the presidential seal designed by our Founding Fathers,” the White House statement reads. “It’s a symbol of valor and bravery.”
The East Room features the cityscapes of New York City, St. Louis, Chicago, and San Francisco to highlight “the diversity and ingenuity of American architecture.”

A forest of 40 red topiary trees lines the East Colonnade leading to the East Garden Room, where the first family’s Christmas card and ornament are on display.
“In the East Wing, the Gold Star Family tree returns,” the White House statement says. This tree is decorated by Gold Star families to honor all the troops and their families. “Gold stars and patriotic ribbon decorate the tree and visitors are encouraged to write messages to their loved ones who are on duty or abroad on the digital tablets provided.”
In the State Dining Room, the traditional White House gingerbread house showcases an edible version of the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the White House:
Ornaments adorning garlands in the Red Room feature Melania Trump’s “Be Best” anti-bullying campaign logo.
A pair of wreaths made out of “Be Best” pencils graces the windows.
The Green Room tree and mantel are adorned with a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains to remind us of the country’s bounty and harvest.
