House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes blasted the Justice Department Thursday night on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle, saying it held back key texts between FBI lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page sought by his committee.
Nunes was incensed that he had to find out about the revealing texts from Inspector General Michael Horowitz even though those documents were “pertinent” to his committee’s FISA abuse investigation. The text in question shows Page fretting in August 2016 that Trump might win the presidency and Strzok replying: “No. No he won’t. We’ll stop it.”
“These are emails or text messages that somebody held [sic] from us, so every day that goes by, there is a new example of obstruction of a congressional investigation,” a peeved Nunes told Fox host Laura Ingraham.
“Why wasn’t that given to Congress?” he asked. “Why did I find out about that today at noon? I mean — this is a classic case of obstruction,” the congressman argued. “Who’s going to go investigate these guys?”
Nunes added that his committee would continue to request documents and “ultimately this is all going to spill out.”
When that happens, he said, people are going to ask, “What are you going to do? Who’s going to get busted? Who’s going to go to jail?”
Nunes also said for the first time that he knew that the FBI was sitting on Anthony Weiner’s laptop in September 2016 because FBI whistleblowers had reached out to his committee with the information.
“We had whistleblowers that came to us in late September of 2016 who talked to us about this laptop sitting up in New York that had additional emails on it,” he said, noting that he couldn’t do anything with the information at the time because it was classified.
“This is the game that Comey and company had been playing,” Nunes explained. “They hide behind this top secret classification.”
